Dear Marvel and DC:

Sep 21, 2011 23:47

I have liked comics and comic-book-related-things since I was a child. I grew up watching the cartoons of Spider-man and X-men and Batman.

I have found that is immensely difficult for me to even attempt to like a decent new comic anymore. Because they're inevitably connected with the others. They're happening at the same time or whatever, right? It taints my enjoyment of anything even halfway decent. And there is currently PRECIOUS LITTLE that is halfway decent, let me tell you. I believe every decision in comics in recent years has been the one I would have least liked to see made. Starting with having Emma fucking Frost, a character which I could absolutely literally not care any less about even if I tried, leading the X-Men. (Which is part of what drove me to never buy an X-title again, especially since it somewhat coincided with Chuck Austen's horrendous run.) (Sorry to people who I know who like her. I just happen to loathe every single atom of her being.)

The sheer systematic nature of the destruction of every facet of the entire medium that I enjoyed has been impressive. I believe they have hit every single one of my favorite characters now. I can't read a comic with any of them in it anymore. Not without they or SOMETHING always directly beside them irritating me fatally. (Hello, Damien. Please stop existing. I liked Batman once.) And now, with costume redesigns in DC, I actually cannot even look at any of them without being reminded of the whole clusterfuck. Oh, and let's not forget, I actually liked characters they either bussed or got rid of. Bye, Ted! Too bad you don't exist anymore, because DC hates everything good in the world.

I have found that I can't even get too angry about it anymore. It is reaching the level of pure apathy.

For the record, things that I can think of that are current and that I enjoy now:

Demon Knights (It's not really connected with anything now, is it? It's a fun medieval romp where superheros don't exist yet, thank god.)

...

Uh.... I don't think webcomics count, really... And nothing else I can think of is new...

So yeah. There's your list. Even Thor's fucked itself up with Fear Itself. I guess Thor might count a tiny bit, as... Well, Kid Loki is awesome. I like that facet of things.

So Demon Knights and Thor-when-it's-Kid-Loki, there you go. Those are the only things that I can squeeze even the slightest drop of enjoyment from these days, in the comic book world.

So basically, in a time of my life where I desperately need even the slightest enjoyment out of life, DC and Marvel have conspired to destroy one of my only, longest-standing, cherished hobbies.

Thanks, guys! I... really needed that!

comics, wtf, sick, rant, bored
