After reporting in to Starscream, Blackstar waits a few moments, letting Starscream give Frostbite her heads up.

// Frostbite, no Spike at Castle Destro. I did, however, pick up a few things you might be interested in. // Blackstar sounds just as smug to Frostbite as he did to Starscream.

Blackstar sounds smug once again when he replies. // How about as many of the databanks from the entire surveillance system at Castle Destro as I could stuff my subspace pockets with? I can pass those off to you whenever's convenient. //

Frostbite is fishing. Blackstar smirks to himself, glad that she can't see him.

// Will do. You may have to get a repair tech to help you with some of the surveillance modules; kinda had to grab and stuff fast. A few may need some repairs before you can plug them into a viewer. I'll keep out of sight of your jittery mech, // he replies with a wicked little chuckle.

// Found a weird sword-thing. Wasn't all that powerful or anything, just... weird. I trashed it. Kinda strange, though... From what you and Starscream said, I'd kinda been expecting more in the way of... well, stuff. //

There's a pause in the conversation, and Frostbite is probably aware of the presence of a spirit nearby - if she's paying close enough attention, she may even note a soft clatter from the direction of her interview room where a certain ghost is dropping off a load of databanks. A moment later, his presence abruptly vanishes as he slips away, going elsewhere in the city.

// Metal, // Blackstar replies drily, before his tone takes on a more serious cant. // It felt cold. Nothing so obvious as any strneg symbols or anything carved on it. It just felt... wrong. //

It had felt as if it could actually affect him somehow, quite frankly, and that's not something he's used to, nor all that keen on letting on about to anyone. Not even if she had given him more information than she'd had to.

// Not really sloppy, just... incomplete. Walls don't do you much good without a roof or a floor. I'm sure he thought the Protections he put up were pretty slagging tight. And they are. As long as you don't look up or down. Too bad for him that bedrock isn't much of a barrier to a spook, huh? //

He sounds smug again, and there's a faint ripple of amusement in his voice as he intones "spook". Some sort of inside joke there, somewhere, probably.

// Good thing I trashed it, then. Thanks for the heads up, though, // Blackstar replies.

// I wouldn't be so sure about that not expecting spooks thing, though, // he continues, his tone sliding into reluctance. He's not too keen on explaining some things to Frostbite - to anyone, really, since knowledge really is power, afterall - however, she obviously already knows a thing or two about the non-material realm. He sighs and plows on, before she figures out a way to ask him something he'll have to answer.

// Walls aren't nearly as efficient as spheres. This Mindbender... for all that he's some sort of evil genius, thinks in 2D. Linear. He was paranoid enough to put up Protections, but there's gaps in his theory. Big ones that're real obvious on this side of the Veil. // There's a vague sense of a shrug in that tone.

// I don't know about what he should have known... just that those Protections weren't complete enough to keep me out. They were plenty strong, only just walls. I didn't exactly figure waking him up to ask him why his Protections sucked was such a good idea, you know? //

Blackstar's voice has grown wry with irritation, although it smooths out again as he continues.

// I'm not saying he was expecting ghosts. The Protections on the castle were woven to keep everything out. Ghosts, spirits, anything that can walk beyond your world. Walls of pure power, like a forcefield, only one that bites. That's all it was, though - walls. No top, no bottom. The top went up all the way, probably beyond the atmosphere; I didn't check. The bottom anchored into the bedrock, but it wasn't that far for me to go to slip past. //

// You know... they might not have even been his Protections, you know? I can see them because of what I am, where I exist. That's how I could see they weren't complete. Maybe he can't see them, just felt them and assumed they ( ... )

That summons a snort of amusement from Blackstar.

// Ah. We're on the same page there, then. Heh. Good. //

After a moment's pause, he continues, // Anything else? If not, whenever your other teams are ready to head out, I'm ready to shadow, if they need additional backup. //

After he reported in to the Commander, that is.

// I'll be sure to pass that along to him. //

And then, silence.
