Back from Costa Rica

Yesterday started at 6am on the beach at Playa Hermosa.  It ended at a New Years Eve party in Austin Texas.  Whew.  It was a long day.

I'm damn happy to be back stateside.  Driving my Mustang down the road, I'm thankful for several things:

1)  Multiple lanes

2)  Lack of potholes

3)  Nobody passing me, speeding, in the rain, on a blind curve

4)  No dead monkeys/bizotes/iguanas in the road (substitute opossums and armadillos instead)

5)  No one-lane bridges with 17 cars piled up waiting for the right-of-way.

Don't get me wrong.  Costa Rica was a blast.  I'm just enjoying my own bed, no fear of drinking the water, and the comforts of home.

Epilogue:  I'm happy when a vacation invites another vacation or journey.  After visiting Belize I resolved that I needed to return and take a remote expedition into the vast ruins of Caracol (which are believed to be larger even than Tikal).  In Costa Rica I resolve to take an expedition out to Isla de Cocos, which is believed to be the historical inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island.

When greed and villainy sail the sea, you can bet your boots there'll be treachery!
