Nine days ago, I graduated from college. It rained during the commencement address, so poor Patrick Fitzgerald's speech was kind of overshadowed by everyone huddling into their gowns and wishing they'd brought umbrellas and watching in fascination as everyone's hats wilted as the cardboard got soaked through.
It's hard to believe that that period of my life is over. College was an amazing experience, and especially for the second half of it, I felt like I was finally where I was meant to be. And now I'm not there anymore. It's tough, moving on to the next thing. But I'm excited, too. I feel like I'm ready to be a grown-up now, but just because I'm ready doesn't mean it's any less terrifying.
Major downside to going to school out of state: When you graduate, you have to leave not only the school but all your friends several states away.
For those who didn't get the news via Facebook, I woke up on the morning of my graduation to an e-mail from
Fantasy Magazine informing me that they'd accepted another of my stories for publication. It was 6:45 a.m. and I'd gotten about three hours of sleep, and only one other person in my house was awake, and had also just woken up after too little sleep, but that didn't stop me from pouncing on her in the kitchen. So "Whisper's Voice" will be appearing in Fantasy Magazine at some point in hopefully not too distant future.
