Me, my dad, and mom went to our new house (actually much older, but we'll be moving soon) today, to fix the gutter in the back so that the insurance company could come and take pictures (you know, so we can't claim that the gutter broke after we moved in and crap). Anyway, it was so cold. And dark (because my mom decided to pray for over an hour after my dad came from work). My dad had gloves on, but I didn't. There was only one ladder, so he was doing all the work. He wouldn't let me help. Kept telling me to go back to the car. He'd already yelled at my mom and made her go sit in the car earlier. I stayed, went to the car once to warm my hands for a minute. I came back and stood at the bottom holding stuff. And then, my dad tells me that he lost the screwdriver bit somewhere. So I start looking in the snow. He climbs back up and starts looking in the gutter. Remember, it's fucking dark outside. I had a flashlight with me. It's batteries were dead. And then it came alive! For 1.7 seconds. I continue to search blindly through the snow, and my dad shifts the ladder over to the right to search the other half of the gutter. Searching, and then out of the corner of my eye, I see the ladder shake, and I heard it lean over. By the time I ran over, it was too late. My dad fell!!!!
Thank God it was only from 4 steps high (it was one of those painters ladders). I think he hit his shoulder on the cement shit right below, and hit his backbone pretty hard somewhere. Poor dude, his shoulder's all red. He thinks he might have a hairline fracture, but he won't go to the hospital. Damn.
He's almost 60. I can't believe I even let him work out in the cold like that.
