That Was The Rant That Was

Dec 31, 2006 00:00

Here we are, gentle readers, the end of the year. Yes, President Ford and James Brown died over the holidays but it has been an interesting year here at the MidnightRanter workshop. We had everything a political junkie asks for: elections, defeats, victories, stupidity, a little sex, scandal and scientology. Yes, here we are the, year in review and how this year blew.

We had Abramoff scandals, the State of the Union that sucked, even the cindy Sheehan parts, Bush looking like more of a fool on Katrina, Fred Phelps being an even BIGGER ass than that, religion messing everyone up down and sideways and the general politic body marching on. I really hate technology sometimes (about once or twice a month or so), I am adamantly opposed to children having sex with adults, and fndragon got interested in trying to make baked alaska. I love Cherry Blossoms, jackasses getting "theirs" in the end and, most recently theredsqrl. There's been drinking, not drinking, ranting, raving and carrying on. If had my normal high speed internet, I'd tell you EXACLTY how many Batman references were made this year and how many times I linked to imdb.com. (Hint: it's a lot)

There was a lot of railing about children not being allowed to be children in the face of many, many things (most of them stemming from over-reaching adults who "just want what's best"), stupid politicians and hypocritical religious leaders who are not leading the flock but fleecing them. And generally trying to eithe call attention or correct bad attention paid ot a great number of issues laid out before us in the vast buffet that is the modern media market. There were a lot of songs made into analogies of possibly too many of the current events goin on, but hey, it's all fun right?

And the main point of this is that I hate stupidity and it doesn't pay off. For way too long, the republicans ran the show hook, line, and sinker and we're saddled with more debt and confusing law for it. Honestly, No Child Left Behind was a pretty idea if you're sitting around the dormroom smoking dope and drinking berr talking politics. Actual implementation of a federally mandated education system is too massive for the American government to handle. There are things, usually domestic, that are too much for a government like the United States to handle, and that's not always a bad thing. Really, the ineptitude of the United States government on some things keeps me going to sleep at night. If they were good at EVERYTHING they tried, the world would be a scarier place, and constantly changing. Imagine all policy decided on the capriciousness of prevailing winds in Washington. Clinton would have been both convicted and exonerated in the same breath. We'd have really efficient laws aimed keep babies from getting trapped down wells. We'd have laws like wikipedia: constantly changing, only as accurate as the last thought made and everyone would ban everyone else.

All in all, it's been laughs, it's been tears and it's been occasionally educational. I will try to keep up with the writing of this thing (December, all bets are off, you all got a hell of a lot more than you didlast year, so no whining). More TV show references to comes (Carnivale, Deadwood, Battlestar Galactica, House, all fair game and great television). I'm gonna continue to rant and rage all things I see, sometimes to great effect, sometimes to bad effect, usually to no effect. But, for now, it all continues and I will do my best to entertain, inform and generally cause a little more reflection on a give subject. Lots of history and politics will be explained, cites will be given as appropriate (I need to do more) and I will continue to try and hold myself to higher standards than the average blogger.

Then again, the average blogger has more readers than I do.

Thanks to everyone who reads this, everyone who comments and everyone who passes this on to their friends. Any requests at any time, leave a comment and I'll see what I can do.

So it is written, so do. . .oh you know it by now.
