Ford's speech part 2 theredsqrl November 10 2006, 09:37:55 UTC
You know, these moments are moments you can either shrink from or grow from. And I have to tell you that I’m going to pray and ask my good Lord and Savior to give me the strength, and the wisdom, and the ability to grow and to not only to be a better person but to be a better servant from it. I say to my opponent tonight, congratulations to you and your family. And I love…I love my country more than I love this process. And as debasing…(clapping) As sometimes as demeaning and debasing this process can be, we sometimes easily forget that when politics works, people live better lives and safer lives. When America is strong and great, the world is a better and safer place. I only hope that all of my friends and colleagues, and those who will be my former colleagues, at least for awhile, in the Congress and in the Senate, I only hope that they realize that what people want more than anything, and what I heard and I know candidates all around the country heard over the last year and a half or two years as they were campaigning. They heard a hunger and they sensed a great appetite on the part of the American people, for something much better and far more dignified and greater than what we have given them over the last several years. And… (applause) I just hope and pray that I’m able to continue to give and continue to serve and continue to help. This campaign also would not have been what it was without all of the young people with all of their idealism, and all of their hope, and all of their confidence in our system and way of government. I thank everybody, from Jay Lindy who was my campaign treasurer and my first campaign employee, who’s been there for me from the very, very beginning. I thank, I thank my campaign manager Mike Powell and Beecher Frasier for their commitment to this great campaign. (Applause, cheers) And, I thank Liz Lowery who has been my finance director (Applause, cheers) And I thank my boy John Davis and Matt Reel who were with me every step of the way on the campaign trail. (Applause) I say to all of my friends who are here… I see my buddy Chris Jackson, who was the first person to set up a web site for me and show his support for me. I thank him.
