Save the Cheerleader, Save the Ticket

This rant was meant to come out much earlier, but it is fortunate there was a delay. On Friday, McCain's choice of Sarah Palin. She is currently the governor of Alaska for 21 months now and before that was the mayor of Wasilia, Alaska, population of about six thousand (sources vary on this, placing the population between 5000 and 8000). She's a 44 ( Read more... )

And, why do you assume just because she's 45 that it's a high risk pregnancy? Age alone is not the only factor in such matters, and speaking as a woman who's had many friends of friends who have given birth after 35, they would probably box your ears for that.

Also, how do you know what her doctor said? The woman has already popped out four kids before this one, I would assume that she would know her own body and labor better than any of you people out here.

AND, more to the point, your assumption that woman show at same amount is really really really really ignorant. For what it's worth, and you know this, my mother lost weight with both my brother and I, and she didn't show until month 6/7 with me, and month 7/8 with John besides chest gain. When she found out she was pregnant with me, she was 120lbs.

This entire entry pisses me off because it makes a lot of assumptions about a womans reproductive cycle. Considering that you've got a dick, you really shouldn't be questioning these things in such a matter.

Right, I forgot, having a penis makes one automatically unable to read any medical literature or have any factual knowledge about pregnancy--in fact, I almost failed a semester of Biology in high school because I can't remember anything about the subject. I mean, I barely even know women are supposed to be pregnant nominally for...hmm, is it six or four months? So hard to...cogitate...penis waves making...dumber...

Seriously, what the hell?

"Considering that you've got a dick, you really shouldn't be questioning these things in such a matter." is about as valid a statement as "Why aren't you in the kitchen getting me a sandwich?"

It's true - I let loose on here because I'm tired of all the talking heads - but really, no one except Sarah and her doctor are qualified to say anything about the pregnancy, and to sit here and question it and act like there's even credence to these claims is irresponsible.

Yeah, except it makes you look like a screaming loon when, well, he's RIGHT--most of the time a woman in her position would have given birth in a local hospital given the circumstances, given the severity of consequences of, say, a post-water-breaking amniotic fluid contamination/infection.

It might not be wrong but it sure looks poorly planned from here.

I guess I've just seen women who are career minded women take different tracks multiple times. My aunt's water broke and she ran around for a day and a half before actually going to the doctor because her contractions hadn't even started yet. Given the complexity of birth - and the human body, it seems like people who are talking about this as something that she should be ashamed of, or is poor judgment, are just looking for the quickest, easiest way to attack her with only knowing a sliver of the facts that should be taken into consideration.

And I was *REALLY* disapointed that someone who prides themselves of logically thinking things out and presenting both sides in a fair manner took this route.

I repeat--the biggest problem with taking issue about it is that his facts are RIGHT. Fooling around after your water breaks IS highly risky, and there's a reason most airlines require you to disclose your pregnancy if you're past 7 months. I mean, two minutes with google told me these facts.

And I take no pretensions of being fair--I think her behavior leading up to childbirth combined with the idiocy over the state trooper shows a pattern of ridiculously bad judgment in someone who's likely to take over the presidency if McCain wins, given that it's likely he's going to kick the bucket pretty much any day now.

Just a question - are you giving Biden the same hard glass considering the likelyhood that he could end up taking over the presidency by default?

How do you mean, by default? Obama assassinated?

It seems to me it's a big elephant in a room that no one is talking about - but is definitely something that people should be. I understand that we would all like to think that we as a people are above those kinds of things, but there are people out there who aren't.

I'm not subjecting Biden to the same scrutiny because I rate McCain's natural end as orders of magnitude more likely than Obama's assassination. It's more like a flea in the room than an elephant, regardless of the froth from both the insanely right-wing groups and the people who dance around the word "Black" without ever wanting to admit that's why they don't like Obama's candidacy.

Biden will be fine, anyway. He's a long-term insider with a pretty straightforward track record, and that can't be any worse than what we've already got. Anyone who does what he did for his family is a guy I'd like to have a beer with any time.

Palin could be a whole lot worse--she's further right than Bush AND she's shown herself to be a poor decision-maker.

A poor decision maker in her own life... much like, say, Clinton?

Until the investigation is complete into Troopergate, I would say that's off-limits for comparision.

I switched to the Democrats specifically to vote against Clinton in the primary, I think it's well within bounds considering we the people told Mr. and Ms. Clinton exactly where to get off the train.

Also, where do you get off spouting this load of BS:

"As a 43 year old high risk pregnancy (yes, a woman that old is automatically a high risk),"

Cite your damn sources, because I pretty much know you're wrong. Especially since everywhere I've read has said that only 5% - 10% of pregnancy's are truly "high risk". Also, the area of HIGH RISK that you are thinking of gives TRUTH to Sarah Palin actually being the damn birth mother since it's known that the older you are the more likely your kid is to have down syndrom.

Hell, lady, here's a hospital that says anyone over THIRTY is automatically higher risk:
