footballverse season four. Prompt: poetry fiction
The feel of the French Blue on his skin feel different this time, different from the summer time. The damage is already done from South America and it has left more than just bruised egos. For Yoann, he had gone through a barrage of emotions - everything from embarrassment to resentment to even hatred. But now that the dust has settled now, poisonous players weeded out, he feels hopeful and confident in not only himself but the other men who wear the colours of their country so proudly. They all know it is going to take more than just a few wins to have the whole nation forgive them. Football isn’t a sport in France. It is a passion. It is a culture. It is life.
So when he stands in the tunnel wearing his beloved country’s colours and the emblem resting comfortably above his heart, Yoann recites in his mind, you cannot redo the past. Because he cannot and thank God for that. He will create a new history; whether good or bad, it will be his. He may not speak with great grandeur but he hopes the fans will judge him on the only thing that matters.

footballverse season four. prompt: drabble and a half
You close your eyes but you can still see the lights flash, hear the buzz and whirl of cameras around you. You hear your name somewhere jumbled amongst the mess of noise.
Cris!
Cristiano
Ronaldo!
You don’t know when you stopped thinking about smiling because now it just comes naturally - even when the questions pertain to how do you feel about losing the title to Barcelona, how does it feel to be kicked out of Champions League so early, how does it feel to lose the pinchi to Messi? It’s all the same but instead of inflicting pain immediately, it’s like a slow burn within your body. It infects your nervous system, working its way through your lymph node until it settles in your heart.
But when you open your eyes and see you little boy, little Cristiano, you know it’ll be okay. It always is.
