The ones who managed the Impossible (the men who tipped the scale)

Jan 27, 2012 03:20

as most of my friends no, I am vehemently Asexual (frigid, or walking Amoeba as its called round here) with LGBT eyes and sense if you get my meaning.
but recently i've noticed more and more that there seems to be some very... note worthy males appearing in the Fantasy and Sci-fi genre.
i decided that those special few deserved a post similar to the ones I make in honor of the Luscious Ladies of my verses, but calling men luscious doesn't really click with me

Tom Ward/Dr Harry Cunningham/Dr Teflon

Probably not that well known outside the UK Tom is one of those men who, you don't notice till he's right there in front of you, here in the UK, tall dark men with Received Pronunciation voices aren't as rare as they were (Collin Firth saw to that) and most would put you to sleep. NOT Tom, Tom Ward would stop your heart then restart it if you have a working one,
now, its been remarked that I have a strange thing for pronunciation despite having the spelling ability outside my scripts of a 4 year old  but Tom has a voice that goes beyond the typical RP/Toff/Posh English rules, after one speech from him, you'll be able to bring his voice into your head again and again, which is very good for fics and scripts :D
currently Tom can be seen Starring as Dr Harry Cunningham  along side one of the ladies from my Luscious list Emilia Fox in the UK's answer to CSI - Silent Witness currently on its 14th season (waiting on a 15th)
Harry Cunningham is probably most to blame for throwing Tom at me, this Pathologist could give all 3 CSI teams a run for their Black-lights, this guy is teflon, he's been blown up, shot, stabbed, set on fire, been close to catching deadly plagues, and every time he's come out on top.

Bradley James/ Prince Arthur Pendragon
SPOILER WARNING!

Bradley James, what can I say? if your reading this and you don't know King Arthur from the BBC adaptation of the old legends, then... go here   and learn about him :D
ok I've called him Prince Arthur and unless you've been living under a rock you will probably know thank Arthur is a Princely Pratt no longer, Uther is dead, finally! and Arthur is now King of Albion, BUT
Prince Arthur was one of the men who got me thinking that maybe, just maybe there were some males out there worth looking at.

at times Arthur has made me want to throttle myself for liking him, but at the same time, on those rare occasions someone says "there must be someone!" to my comment that i prefer women, he's always the first face I see.

Benedict Cumberbatch/Sherlock Holmes

and I refuse to put RIPA Sherlockian since before I could read when I learned that in one year no less than 3 versions of the great detective would be released, you can imagine my lack of jubilation, no one had correctly portrayed Mr Holmes (IMO) since the old black and white films my granddad had shown me as a child starring Basil Rathbone...boy was i wrong

first out came the Asylum's version, a strange location hopper with Gareth David Lloyd outshining the rest of the cast as Watson (see auto section of my Facebook), the good thing about this version is that it was all done in fun, they didn't set out to recreate Sir Doyles world, which kinda made it better :D
next was Guy Richie's starring an American in the lead role (big surprise there) and filmed in Liverpool with Jude Law saving the day as Watson, now don't get me wrong, I do like this Sherlock, but it doesn't strike me the way I was lead to believe it would, so much so that I didn't actually see it till a year later. decent, yes, but not MY Sherlock heaven.

and then finally came the BBC, always waiting till the last min that's Aunty Beeb, let you hear hisses and rumors, wonder weather or not its going to be anything, and then BAM! and a good thing too, around its release tv was getting stale, the Doctor had flown off for a few months to find a new Fez, Merlin and Arthur were licking their wounds waiting for a new adventure, leaving weekends empty.

A Study In Pink was the most fantastic take on a Sherlockian mystery there has been in years, modernized for a new audience but still retaining that certain little crumpet for the old fan (like myself)... but this isn't a worship of The Moff, he got that at the NTA's this is about Benedict Timothy Carlton Cumberbatch

Thanks to aeron_lanart for this picture
Benedict is strange, i'd seen him before Sherlock, i'd watched Small Island intently and  not noticed him completely, but there was something about the way he walked into a room, held a silence, and even cried that made me wonder about him.
for me its all in the eyes, if a person be they male or female doesn't catch you with their eyes, they don't really catch you, and from "oh, thank you." Sherlock/Benedict had caught me!
after Sherlock sea.. sorry Series 1 i saw a very strange sight, this tall gaunt and interesting young man, was stood on a red carpet, with Arthur's blonde hair on top of his head, i was knocked over to say the least,
when we last saw Sherlock he'd made the ultimate sacrifice for his friends, John mainly though I still think ;D, but as a Sherlockian i knew even that couldn't end the detective, and as the credits began we saw our dark hero watching John at his own grave, though how, we will not know until 2014 apparently.
meanwhile Benedict is to be in Star Trek, Star along side his Watson in the Hobbit, and is currently starring in War Horse.

Misha Collins/Castiel

& Jensen Ackles/Dean Winchester

now, if you know me, which you probably do or else you wouldn't waste your timing reading this sorry excuse to post cute pictures, anyway, if you know me, you know that recently i have fallen pretty hard back into Supernatural fandom,

and here stand the culprits Dean Winchester and his Angel Castiel.
now, despite my best efforts, i know exactly whats happened/happening to the boys in Season 7, but that's all i will say on the matter

I decided around the time season 6 aired here in the Uk for the first time that i didn't wan't to jump in at the deep end, I started back at the beggining in season 1. despite (i am damn sure) losing track of everything around season 2/3 when ITV decided to play hot potatoe with channels (when they got more than one channel lol)

Jensen Ackles (Deans alter) first came to my notice in Dark Angel, to this day my favorite charectat from the show has always been and will always be x5-493 493 was one of the few x5's i could identify with and his short stay on the show left a lasting impression. when we met 494 in Season 2 I had hoped for something of 493 to be there, but as 494 explains, thanks to 493's unique "differences" he experienced extra training.

Misha Collins (Castiel), I still have trouble wrapping my head around this, but before he was an angel of the lord, he was a whiney pain in the ass called Eric Bragg in Charmed, a show I followed for years and that gave me a lot of supprise encounters with my favorite actors, it wasn't even that Misha was blonde in Charmed that threw me, it was how much he's... well for lack of a better term, how much he's improved, even as Vlad in CSI Nesting Dolls you could see it, cold eyes boaring into anyone daft enough to meet them.
Dean

Dean Winchester, the man of a thousand SOB's :D the man with an unhealthy obsession with his car a 1967 Chevrolet Impala :D
Both good reasons to admire him IMO, lol
he's loud, impulsive, completely out of his tree even before a demon can work any 'mojo' on him.
if you can take the bad music and the constant references to how Sam needs to get laid then everything else about the elder Winchester is a-mazing, imo,

I'm currently watching the last 4 episodes of season 2, and as i'm about 6 seasons behind I know whats ahead of me, the Deal, the year, the duet, the death, perdition, and then....

Castiel

I shouldn't know about Cas, i should take everything i have with him on it and lock it away for another whole series, but after recognising a friend dressed as him when i didn't watch the show and an encounter with the Metallicar i kinda figured 'someone' was dropping hints that i should get back into the show, and Castiel was most definatley the reason. he is everything I look for in a charectar, he's not very good at the 'human' thing, can be cold and straight o the point, and its the first to point out when Deans frelled up again,
as far as i'm concerned, I know about Castiel up to the end of Season 4, after that I don't wanna cross that bridge till i come to it.

Misha Collins (Castiel) is a character all to himself, and he inspires his fans to be as mad as he is

 need i say more?

There are actually a few more men i could mention, but I think my point has been made, after re-examining the evidence ala Holmes, I have decided that while still majoritarily prefering Women, there are some Men worth a look

may be interesting to note that:
Benedict, Tom and Bradley not only tipped the scale for me by there Gender, they also did it by their Nationality,  it may sound wierd, unless you know me, that for a long time I avoided British actors, Actresses and other things, not so much on purpose at first, but it just kinda became a thing that the UK couldn't match Europe and America for decent performers lookswise or any other, but first Torchwood, then Merlin and Sherlock all proved me wrong.  and i started paying more attention to my own country (ala Silent Witness) Richard belongs here too... if you count Scots and Brits or English

another

strange thing to mention regarding Bradley/Arthur is that he marks me out from my partner in crime, where she goes for the cheek bones and Dark haired types like Arthur's own partner in crime Merlin, I seem to prefer men (and women) who are... well i could just take the easy route and say Blonde and Posh, but there is something else, something in Bradley's eyes that marks him out, and his fellow golden haired co-star Emilia Fox also has that strange something about her.
its just kinda one of our things, what makes it funny is that like Arthur/Bradley i'm blonde and like Merlin/Collin shes... Dark haired.

Honorable Mention
Godric, Reid, Dyson Jasper Hale, Robb Stark, Much, Marcus cole, Bray, Zoot, Matt Tuck, John Snow, Theon Grayjoy, Lt Commander Data, Leo Wyatt, Chris Wyatt, Doctor 11, Sam Winchester, Eric
