Orchestra

I saw Rio, and Jesse is ADORABLE in it. It made me feel very fluffy, so I wrote this. First-date Jesse is so adorable. He's adorable, period. I've overused that word. But he is!!!

Title - Orchestra
Pairing - Jesse/Christina
Rating - G for insane fluff.
Summary - Jesse is his normal self on his first date with Christina. Really.

Jesse knew Christina loved music, so he decided to take her to an orchestra concert for their first date. It was classic and simple to pull off. Except with Jesse, things were never simple. He managed to forget the tickets, in turn throwing off his entire schedule that he had so painstakingly prepared. By the time he got to Christina's building and rang the doorbell, he was on the verge of having a panic attack. This was going terribly!

I'm late, she's probably going to be furious, why did I even ask her to go out on a date? It's a disaster, she's never going to want to see me again. She's better off that way, I look ridiculous in this tuxedo, there she is, and...

Christina stopped his thoughts as she stood in the doorway. Her long emerald dress brought out her chocolate eyes and made the red in her hair pop, as slight as it was. She smiled shyly at him and carefully went down the stairs.

“Hi,” she breathed. “You, you look very, um, handsome.”

Without thinking, Jesse said, “No, I d-- I mean, thank you. You, um...you're very...beautiful tonight.”

Women like it when men call them beautiful, right? What if she expected me to say something else? Oh no, she's just looking at me. Shouldn't she have said something? Why did she agree to do this, shouldn't she have known that it wouldn't have gone well? Maybe she'll cut me some...no, of course not. She expects to be, what is it, swept off her feet, what if I can't do that...oh wait. She's...she's smiling at me. Maybe this won't be a disaster. Maybe it'll be just a minor trauma. Positivity.

“You think so?” Christina said, blushing slightly when Jesse nodded. “Jesse...”

He returned the smile and felt his over-analytical mind fire up again, but it fell silent when he felt her hand slide into his. Jesse normally didn't like it when people touched him. Christina was different, though. The fact that she wanted to hold his hand, wanted to be around him...he thought she was absolutely insane, but it still made him happy in his own twisted, neurotic sort of way.

They made it to the concert with time to spare, much to Jesse's surprise. The music was absolutely gorgeous (he especially loved the finale to the Firebird suite and found himself humming the French horn solo on the trip home), but it couldn't compare to Christina as she watched the musicians play. Her eyes were alight with joy, and the smile on her face made her look positively angelic. Jesse just wished he could find the words to tell her that without sounding stupid.

“We're here,” Christina said once they got to her building. He could've sworn that he heard sadness in her voice.

“I'll, um, I'll walk you to your door, if that's okay with you,” Jesse said. Of course it's probably okay with her, I didn't have to ask her, for whatever reason, Christina really likes being around me. Oh, no. What if she tries to kiss me goodnight? She's going to think that I was terrible at it. Maybe she won't try to. I'll hope for that so he can't be let down and I can count this as...actually enjoyable. If she tries to, it'll be a mild trauma. Possibly a disaster, depending on how badly she reacts, I really hope she doesn't try to...

He only half-meant that last thought.

“Jesse?”

He snapped out of his thought process and put an arm around Christina's waist. She smiled at him, and he nervously returned it as they made their way inside the building and to her apartment door. This was it.

“I really enjoyed tonight,” Christina began. “Thank you.”

“As did I,” Jesse said stiffly, mind focused on the potential kiss. “I, uh, wouldn't be opposed to doing this sort of thing again, and...”

“Neither would I. Um, Jesse...”

Christina stood there for a moment, contemplating her next decision. She bit her lip and then went for it. She leaned in closer to him, closer...half-expecting him to pull away out of nerves and neuroticism and whatever went on in his fascinating brain, but he didn't. Their lips met for a few short seconds, and then she pulled away.

“Goodnight,” she said with a smile.

“Good...good night...” Jesse stuttered once the door was closed. “It wasn't terrible.”

Jesse wasn't just talking about the kiss (which he had actually enjoyed). The entire evening had been, dare he say it, a success.
