5 Christina/Jesse lyric drabbles

1. there's hope for the hopeless
Their relationship wouldn't last very long. They were too different to be even the least bit compatible. Things were seemingly hopeless for this new couple. However, what people didn't see was that Christina's weaknesses were Jesse's strengths, and vice versa. She knew how to handle his various quirks better than he did. They completed each other in the most beautifully unusual way, and they found it refreshing from what they had known. Surprisingly, Jesse was willing to be a little more public with Christina. They went places together and made it somewhat obvious that they were a couple. Once people saw them out together hand-in-hand, how happy and relaxed they were around each other, then they knew. Perhaps there was hope for them after all.

 2. honey, you please me, even in your sleep.
For Jesse, confessing his love for Christina was the most difficult thing he'd ever done. It terrifed him more than the possibility of giving an Oscar acceptance speech and made his nerves fire even more than they had when he hosted SNL. Yet, somehow, after convincing himself that she wouldn't run away, he said it. It had come out as “Iloveyou” instead of three seperate words, but she had gotten it and immediately kissed him...oh, and returned the sentiment.

Now that the confession was over, Jesse found new ways to worry over it. His “favorite” one was analyzing every single thing he did around her and wondering how it contributed to her mood. If her reaction was questionable, he worried that he'd hurt her. He knew that he rarely did anything to upset her, but the thought of doing that plagued him. He often wondered if her bad moods after a day on the set were his fault until he realized that she was working on very emotionally intense scenes, doing take after take. Even then, he wasn't fully relaxed.

“Jess, listen, please,” Christina said one night as they lay in bed and she gently touched his face and jawline with her fingertips. “You make me happy. Very happy.”

3. i was difficult to reach, but you picked me.
It was very difficult to get Jesse to open up. He always had this wall around him, protecting himself from the world. It wasn't that he didn't trust anyone. It was that he was very guarded, always thinking before he spoke (and often pausing during the middle of a sentence) to make sure that he got everything just right. It was just one of his neuroses. He fully expected Christina to give up after a few weeks of trying to get him to open up and be the real Jesse Eisenberg, not the one who didn't let his hyperawareness shut him down socially and make him prefer staying in with his cats (Mozart and Lacrymosa, unusually named but so perfectly Jesse). The one very few people knew.

Christina was persistant. She became Jesse's friend, someone he could trust with things that he didn't tell just anyone. They connected in a way he thought was impossible. An emotional way. She got him to open up and let his real personality, the more outgoing one, show. It was a beautiful thing. Then, as if it were an idea that woke her up in the middle of the night and drove her to write at some inhuman hour, it hit her. Jesse was sitting outside in the sunlight, wind gently teasing his curly hair as he focused his attention on a thick book.

“Jesse!”

He turned when he heard Christina call his name, and the smile on his face melted her heart. She was attracted to him. Might as well go for it. She sat across from him as he put the book down and gave her his attention.

“Um, I was wondering, would you wanna go get dinner sometime?” she asked, not missing the look of surprise that flicked across Jesse's face.

“With you...as in, a, um, date?” he asked, and she nodded. “Um...I'm...”

“Surprised?” she offered.

“Yes, that...that would work. Um, as for your, um, question, yes. I'll go out to dinner with you.”

He couldn't believe it. He had been so difficult, yet Christina picked him. He felt pretty lucky.

4.maybe i can make you feel better. maybe i'm supposed to make you feel better.
Christina could see that Jesse didn't have much when it came to self-confidence. If he read something negative, it destroyed him for a few days. He even took the positive reviews that said he was good in some film and made them negative.

“I mean, why didn't they say I was very good instead of just good?” Jesse asked her.

“Jess, they liked you,” she said calmly. “It's a good review.”

“Obviously I wasn't good enough,” he said somewhat dejectedly as he pushed the magazine away. “Or else, or else they would've...”

Christina sighed and sat next to him on the couch. She rested her head on his shoulder, nuzzling into the crook and inhaling deeply. She loved that sweet yet masculine smell...it was so uniquely Jesse that nothing else could hope to match it. She saw him smile a little when she looked up at him.

Maybe that's why we found each other, Christina thought after kissing his cheek. I can make him feel better when he's down...I seem to be better at it than his meds. Maybe I'm supposed to make him feel better.

“Um, listen. If it makes you feel any better, I thought you were very good. Wonderful, even,” she said. “And I'm not just saying that as your girlfriend. I mean it.”

“Really?”

“Of course. I love you.”

Jesse kissed her sweetly and gave her one of his rare, sincere smiles. It was then that she knew that she could always make him feel better. She was meant to do that.

5. when you kiss me, i am happy enough to die.
Surprisingly, it didn't take much to make Jesse happy. A new map to add to his ever-growing collection, a new history book to read and practically memorize, or a new cat to take care of until it found a home. Then, there was Christina. The one person who understood him more than anyone in his life. More than his family, Andrew, anybody. She made him happier than he thought possible. Perhaps this was the happiness that his therapist, back so many years ago, meant when she had told him that he deserved to be happy.

That particular afternoon found them in his (soon to be their) apartment. Jesse had one arm around Christina as she snuggled up to him and stroked the brown tabby - Lacrymosa - that had settled herself on Jesse's lap. They turned to look at each other at the same moment, brown locking on blue in a gaze that shut out the rest of the world. Jesse still couldn't believe that this woman had fallen in love with him. Christina had gotten past his neuroticism, his depression (that Andrew insisted she was helping with), and all of his oddities to fall in love with him. And Jesse had fallen hard for her too. He knew that he was capable of love, but knowing that she loved him back made the fall that much harder. She leaned in and kissed him once, twice, three times. They were soft, yet they said so much. Jesse could tell just how much she loved him, wanted him.

Those kisses made him so much happier than any map, book, or cat could possibly make him.
