If you go blonde - its expensive to maintain, and hepls if you can find a cut that actually compliments your roots growing in - I know that sounds strange but after 3 years with the same hairdresser, that I even drive out of state to get my regular hair cut from after moving - Get a good hairdresser! Someone who LISTENS, nothing is more valuable in a hairdresser than that - they can train and get smarter and learn new tricks, but if they don't care about you, they never will.
Second, you'll practically never turn out the same color, every four, six, or eight weeks, how ever long you want your roots to grow - it will change shade slightly. This can't be helps, you are living art. Also, products (bleaches, dyes, toners) all come and go.
So then about gray, after being 10 different shades of blonde.. you might feel comfortable with gray, and you'll see gray is just another color and can be gorgeous when used correctly! Even a nice dark tone gray, since you don't like the 'Russian beach blonde' look.
And your friend in hairstylist will be able to help with a good cut style based on your experience you rely to them, (what you like, what you don't, how often you wash or style or hair) and your hair and face shape/type.
Sorry to post all that without introducing myself, but I am passionate with blonde ambition <3
