I just can't manage to make myself post in this thing consistently. I have stuff I'd like to write about / comment on / document for my own later review and humour, but when I sit down to start typing I always end up clicking some random link that leads me off into the fiber-optic stratosphere. By the time I return, I'm too sleepy to type. Perhaps if I tried it before 2am...
Projekt Revolution was interesting. The bands started at 12:30pm, but I couldn't imagine ten and a half hours of emo music, so we didn't get there until about 4:30pm. We managed to catch five of the six mainstage bands: Placebo, HIM, Taking Back Sunday, My Chemical Romance, and Linkin Park. Placebo was really good -- I was impressed. HIM sucked, totally. TBS was ok, but not memorable. MCR was exactly what you'd expect them to be: dramatic, whiny, and bombastic all at the same time. They're basically a 21st century melding of Queen, The Cure and Smashing Pumpkins. Linkin Park is just Linkin Park... you either like them or seethe at the very mention of their name. I happen to like them, unapologetically. I have no idea why.
Patrick surprised us by never leaving our side. We figured he'd ditch us just past the door and we'd have to call him at 11pm to make him come to the car. Nope... he stayed solidly three feet in front of us rarely acknowledging our presence, but he was there the whole time, even though we know there were people at the concert he knew. Sometimes the boy confuses us.
We were lucky and missed the rain that hit the state that night (last Wednesday). The concert didn't see any rain, though lightning started while we were in the parking lot waiting to leave after 11pm. We watched several great lightning shows on the way home while driving up I-75, but again didn't get more than a few drops. We realized the severity of the storm up north when we stopped at Denny's in Saginaw. The parking lot and streets were covered in branches and leaves, and there had obviously been a power outage for awhile. The Tri-Cities had two and a half inches of rain total while we were downstate, and nearly four inches in the past three days with a lot of wind but no tornadoes like there were in other parts of the state that day and yesterday.
And look at that... it's raining again.
