oh the joys of immigration.
(and how canada is so different that the uk)

in canada you apply for a social insurance number when you decide you want to start working. you send off some form to the government and they issue you a card with your number on it. you're then part of the system. joy.

apparently in england you can't just ask for a national insurance number because you want to find a job, even though apparently you need one in order to have a job. instead you have to be able to prove you're actively searching for work and THEN apply for the number. I'm somewhat confused at this point, because if I need a number to get a job why am I having to look for a job and prove this in order to get a number?

stupid.

so I'm off to a bunch of recruiting and temp agencies this afternoon to try and see if they'll help me in my quest to find an income. one can only be an inheritance spending slacker for so long.
