I'm worried about the GRE for reasons I don't understand. Also, I am better at math than I am at "verbal", which is...funny to me.

Seriously, it's stupid. Let's list off where I'm applying, and whether they require the GRE:

UMass - Not really. A couple financial aid options do, but...no one else. If I do well, then yes; if I don't, then no!
Sarah Lawrence - No, because they are the Hampshire of Writing Programs.
Syracuse - Yes
Penn St. - Yes
Brown - No, because they are the other Hampshire of Writing Programs (other only because they have, y'know, the smart people, instead of crazy people)
Hollins - Nope, but they'll take it if I got it.

So, I'm taking this test for two schools, one of which is my fourth choice, one of which is my dead last, safety choice (who admit 10% of their students! And give *everyone* a full ride. Yeah grad school!), and if I do really well (I won't), other people can have them, too.

I figure 1300/5.5 is my cutoff date, given the choice, for UMass and Hollins to get my scores. Given no option, I'll gamble with UMass (because the potential is there for scholarships with it, whereas Hollins doesn't give a damn).

But seriously, even if you include UMass, that's...like, my tied for second choice. Nothing to worry about. Which is why it is baffling that I worry. Probably because it's so fucking long.

Now, getting *any* member of the Creative Writing faculty at Hampshire to return my emails...that's a challenge. I only worked closely with two faculty members at Hampshire (surprisingly, my committee), and...all but Sarah Lawrence and UMass require three recommendations. Which is bad.

Given the choice between all of them, I'd probably have to make a difficult choice between UMass, Brown, and Sarah Lawrence, and, this second, would probably pick Brown. I'd probably give Hollins and Syracuse thought if they give me a fair amount of money. Penn St., I am confident of my admission to (because they seem kind of hard up, compared to the others), and...it's most likely I'll get in there. Which makes them a good safety net.

Applications suck, though. I don't see why they need all this information. Also, none of them allow for you to interview with them, which is *baffling*. Like, I know these aren't big programs, and usually have about six faculty members, but...it's baffling.

Grad school ranting over!
