adventures in underwater fun land

last night the dishwasher in our apartment broke, tragically, while running late at night.

we were all sleeping in our cozy beds when a banging noise began at the door, we ran into the living room (which was humid like the rainforest) and as I looked around I couldn't help but notice water POURING from the dishwasher. The dishwasher which was, by the way, no longer actually running. So I stepped into the kitchen to open it and make it stop, scalding my feet on burning water and releasing a torrent of water into the kitchen. Becca opened the door and john from downstairs said, "there's water pouring through my ceiling."

I wanted to die.

We turned off the hot water, got towels and began the long process of sopping up all the water. By the end of it all (over an hour later) every towel in our apartment was soaked (as well as much of our carpet) and a four foot chunk of the ceiling of the condo below us was missing. We went to sleep having watery dreams, and I woke up this morning with no idea of what to do.

As I was driving to work I called Boris (who's condo we are subleting) and let him know all about our drama. He called the plumber, and I called my mom (who generously offered to come to Austin and help clean up). So today while I was falling asleep at work Becca and my Mom (Laura LU helped too) wet-vac-ed all the water up and put solution on the carpet to prevent mold. The repair man came and said the dishwasher was leaking in 3 places, Boris says they will have to replace it but I'm not responsible for the damage.

I'm hoping there aren't any natural disasters in my apartment tonight, I'm not sure how much more of this I can take.

P.S. - I love my job and my becca.
