+ I still need to respond to my comments from the last post, but apparently I am now a snail on top of everything else lol :$
+ Mostly, this post is an excuse to pimp the
asoiafkinkmeme because I am just so thrilled that such a thing exists for multiple reasons <3___<3
+ Also, that happy Cassie GIF is extremely misleading because I have more than a few very negative things to say about TVD at this point, and I'm just going to use last night's episode as an excuse to vent my frustration lol :|
Warning for EXTREME negativity.
So, there was absolutely nothing I cared about or was even slightly interested in last night--if anything I was fairly bored and side-eying the entire thing because it COULD NOT be clearer to me that the writers are pulling things out of their ass to push the plot (that I literally do not even care to try and understand) forward at this point, and I just CANNOT with this "insert as you go" mythology, shoddy characterization, relationships that no longer make any logical sense, selective amnesia, etc etc.
Also, CONSTANTLY using death (or death of the "haha gotcha!" variety) as a plot device renders it completely inconsequential, and the whole mess with Alaric this episodes stands as a perfect example for me. I KNEW they were going to pull another stunt like the one they pulled with Bonnie last season, like the one they've been pulling with the Originals since their appearance (like is it just me or is this whole dagger/undagger business getting beyond tiresome?), and it took away from ANY emotional engagement I could have had with regards to Elena, Jeremy, Bonnie, and Damon's reactions because at the end it just--IDEK how to explain what it was--cheap perhaps?? :/ I mean, I get that this is a supernatural show and these things are BOUND to happen, but it's gotten to the point where nothing is shocking or consequential or even relevant outside its weekly purpose because the execution is so sloppy and short-sighted.
And just, it probably isn't news to anyone that I'm over like all the ships (or the canon manifestations of them at least) on this show--ESPECIALLY anything that has anything to do with the central triangle of doom (except, okay, I admit I'm still somewhat intrigued by the dark potential for Klaus/Caroline the show likes to tease from time to time), but now it's gotten to the point where I'm starting to lose my investment in the characters themselves and that is NOT a good sign because, in light of this season and aside from my little corner of this fandom, that was the only thing keeping me grounded to this show.
Basically, I've been MAJORLY disappointed in this show for some time now, and last night's sorry excuse for an episode seemed like an appropriate avenue through which to vent said disappointment, and I can only hope that next season will be an improvement of some kind at this point.
