Colour Meme!
I got this one from the_angry_pixie! So basically how it works is, any of my friends who leave a comment on this post will receive a reply from me in which I'll give you the name of a colour that I think reminds me of you. You then have to go off and come up with ten things that you love that also just happen to be/include THAT VERY SAME COLOUR (or, if you're one of my American friends, color). NAVY BLUE
And since Laura included a nice photo collage of her favs for purple, I thought I'd do the same.
THE RUNDOWN: (from L-->R, top to bottom)
1)Blueberries. The city I live in is actually a river delta, which means... FERTILE LAND. Berries are the #1 crop here, particularly cranberries and blueberries. In the summer I go to the farms and purchase a 10 lb box, then eat most of them in the car on the 15-minute drive home. Mmmmm... antioxidants. :)
2)The Vancouver Coast mountains. Yes, I know that trees are actually green. I did, in fact, graduate kindergarten. But mountains look navy from a distance, and this is how I think of them. They're one of my absolute favourite things about living on the Pacific Coast.
3)The Ocean. When I moved overseas I was never really homesick, but I did feel extremely out of place without the ocean nearby.
4)VANCOUVER CANUCKS!!!! Specifically the original vintage stick jersey. The modern version of the stick jersey (which is hanging in my closet as we speak) is more royal blue, but the vintage one is definitely navy.
5)The Papermate Flexgrip Ultra pen. Yes, I'm being that specific. I have a nervous habit that developed when I was in high school. If there's a pen (or any long, very thin object for that matter) within my grasp, I will spin it around my thumb until someone takes it away. I do this at work, school, at home, walking down the street, ANYWHERE. It's a compulsion. Here's an example (sorry for the German. It was the shortest vid I could find. The others take your through a 5-minute tutorial. Not interested):
So anyway, the Papermate Flexgrip Ultra is my favourite pen not because it writes especially well (it's actually rather mediocre as pens go), but because it's perfectly weighted for the thumb-around. I have dozens of them all over my house/in my purse etc.
6)Want One. One of my favourite albums of all time. I love the cover art for this album.
7)Bombay Sapphire. This one's a bit of a stretch: it's not navy. The bottle's more like... turquoise. But it's still blue, and it's one of my VERY favourite things. G&T is my #1 drink of choice, but I will only order it in a bar if said bar has Bombay on its shelves. It makes other brands of gin taste like vodka.
8)Jeans. I'm not joking when I say I don't own a single pair of pants that aren't jeans (unless you count workout pants). If I'm not wearing jeans, I'm wearing a skirt/dress.
9)Girl Guide Badge! Lol... I was in girl guides when I was a kid, and I loved it. I probably had about 50+ of these things. I was obsessed with collecting as many as I could. Also, remember the old uniforms? With the button-up navy dress and the belt with the little leather pouch for dues? And the scarf!? Damn, these days they all just wear sweatpants and a striped t-shirt. It used to take us 20 minutes just to get dressed up for guides. Those were the days.
10)My family's old boat. This isn't it, but it's a picture of the same type of boat, and it looks almost like ours did. It was a 1977 Wellcraft Nova 250XL. But the thing with our boat was, the ENTIRE thing was navy: the boat itself, the carpets, the seats, the canopy, the trim... It was a great boat, and we had it ever since I can remember. My dad sold it last year, and some of us actually cried when we took our last trip out in it. It was like a member of the family.
