Chaos Theory Decant Circle

May 26, 2010 09:04

I absolutely LOVE the Chaos Theory series. I've been around for at least 3 of them and each time when it's over I always have a "shoulda" moment about running a decant circle. I love just being able to smell all the unique blends that are created in the moment of Chaos!

For simplicity sake each decant will be $3 :) I really want to try as many ( Read more... )

Ok, looks like we got some more people interested, so yay!

The tracking/etc. shouldn't be a problem at all. Like it matters (some might see the parallels), I'm a CPA/CFO/Accountant so keeping track of numbers is what I do LOL

I'm going to spend some time this weekend creating the circle's "game plan" from everyone's comments and what they'd like, from there I should be able to judge how many will be ordered and when (YES I want to do the multiple orders).

I'm not sure how much I can help on the Eris' Tilt-A-Whirl series; so many people sniff totally different things when not given a list of notes. My first chaos I had people describing things as chocolaty or foodie and when I got it, it would be something like an herbal/green scent! I was more weary the second time, but it still happened :P I'd feel really bad if I labeled a certain Chaos scent "X", sold it out as a half bottle to someone in the circle, and then the person got it and was like - NO WRONG BAD DO NOT PASS GO DO NOT COLLECT $200. It's a lot of pressure! Do you ever have people ask you to pick up prototypes from the Trunk Shows that "smell like x/y/z"? I'll see how much more interest there is on the Eris' before making a final decision, but people love having that 'safety word' in their Chaos whether it be... Snake Oil/Dorian/Vanilla/Amber/etc. because at least they know the lab put some amount of that scent or blend in it. Not as risky... or chaotic ;)

Sounds good, like you will be able to put together something reasonable once you gather enough data. The one decant from every vanilla bottle is totally fine regardless of what else might be in it since I'm sure if I don't like it someone will - so getting a decant of each vanilla bottle is my primary desire!

With the Eris CTs, I know my own taste very well, and it's pretty much there's just a few things I CAN'T handle, and they are all strong and IMO obvious types of notes. For me particularly, the NO NO NO notes are:

SPICY (any type, from cinnamon to cumin to black pepper and everything in between)
SAFFRON
LICORICE/ANISE/WORMWOOD (or anything that smells remotely similar)
SASSAFRASS/ROOTBEER
FOODY (like baked goods; 'sugary'/like candy is fine)
EARTHY (anything that smells like dirt, regardless of source)
CEDAR (or anything that smells really DRY)
DRY/HOT/WARM scents
TEAK (or any 'dark' wood scent)
INCENSEY (any type, I hate all types of incense notes)
DARK RESINS (pretty much goes with incense)
DARK/HEAVY (any scent that 'feels' dark or oppressive or even just 'intense' in overall vibe)
RED MUSK
DRAGON'S BLOOD
JASMINE, YLANG-YLANG & GARDENIA
LILAC, WISTERIA & NARCISSUS (if you know how Narkissos smells, nothing that smells ANYTHING like that)
SWEET PEA
MOONFLOWER
LOTUS in any form
ORRIS
PINE
AMBER (any type except white)
PATCHOULI
SPANKED-STYLE LEATHER (but I do LOVE the Dead Man's Hand style leather)
NUTTY & GRAIN notes (whether hazelnut, almond, chestnut or corn, barley, anything with that creamy-nutty note that grains have etc)
PUMPKIN
BUTTERY/TONKA
CARAMEL
BROWN SUGAR/MOLASSES
COFFEE
CHOCOLATE
COCONUT
MILK
BANANA
RED CHERRY (black cherry is fine, I love black cherry)
BLACK CURRANT
FIG
APRICOT
LEMONGRASS and LEMON VERBENA
GRAPE
RUM
WINE

Is that too crazy of 'BAD NOTE' list? And yes, I have picked up trunk show bottles for people but only if I know their tastes REALLY well.

As for things I love:

FIZZY/SPARKLING
ALL CITRUS (as long as it's not verbena/lemongrass, but true, real, citrus - especially GRAPEFRUIT and BLOOD ORANGE)
'OLD' LEATHER (like in Dead Man's Hand, Olisbos, Rivet Goth...)
METAL/CHROME
MUSK (as long as it not's red, and I don't love black musk) - especially CRYSTALLINE/LIGHT or EGYPTIAN/AFRICAN MUSKS
SOFT VANILLA
VANILLA ORCHID
CREAM
HONEY
PINK SUGAR
SUGAR CANE, or anything sugary/candyish without being 'brown' or 'burnt' sugary
FRESH GINGER (not the spicy dry hot sort, but like ginger ale, or in Playing With a Loaded Gun)
GINGER FLOWER
EXOTIC/TROPICAL FRUITS (lychee, mango, pineapple etc)
BERRIES
CRANBERRY
QUINCE
GUAVA
KIWI
PASSIONFRUIT
PEAR
SALTY AQUATICS
RED CURRANT
PEONY
LINDEN
CROCUS
DAFFODIL
CHERRY BLOSSOM
TULIP
PLUMERIA
FREESIA
SOFT CARNATION (nothing that smells too spicy like clove)
DAISY
GERANIUM
SPEARMINT (peppermint's fine too)
CUCUMBER
GRASS
BALSAM
LETTUCE
DANDELION
WHITE SANDALWOOD
WHITE AMBER
CLEAR BOOZE: champagne, gin, vodka, and especially SAKE
OZONE
FRESH/LIGHT/AIRY/DELICATE type scents in feel

If that's too hard - just leave me off the Eris list, I guess. And I totally understand if that's too hard,

Ok, since you have thought about these Chaos circles, I thought maybe you can offer your thoughts.. I thought it over this weekend and here's my issue:

[In the Vanilla group] There are 4 people who would want a decant of each vanilla that would be ordered. Add to this the 3 others that would want 3 different decants each time they are ordered... That would mean I would need at least 3 bottles to have 7mls (which bottles are 5mls, but you can squeeze 6-7 samples sometimes..) and that wouldn't leave any for me to test out even if I could stretch it out to 7 samples.

I think the only way to overcome this is limit the "one of each ordered" requests to 2 per group (2.5 or so if I include myself-I figure I can take a smallish sample if needed), and any one else can give me a quantity of the left over bottle until we meet the 5-6mls. More people ordering by quantities would mean more bottles can be ordered, but we can't feasibly add more bottles because there are more people that want "one of each" because at the end of the day there is only so much in those bottles, you know?

Looks like we have 6 bottles of Vanilla chaos for each batch! That would be a total of 18 decants for you :) If you'd like them all held til the end the total would be $58 or $60.04 with paypal fees. If you'd like each 6 sent after I get them decanted, the total would be $63 or $65.19 with paypal fees.

If I end up with any Eris' Tilt-A-Whirl that I *think* you'd be interested in based upon your scent pref (read: something I probably hate LOL) I'll let you know!

I sent it ahead as I usually look to see if someone has an email posted if they give me a total without a pp addy, so I found it as you can see. :)

1. I think I should get a decant from each unique Vanilla bottle as I was the first to request it, but it sounds like you have honoured that anyway, for which I am deeply grateful! <3

In general I think everything should be first come, first served bc it's just the fairest way.

And I'd like to have my Echo imp shipped with this, so add that to your post if that's best for you in terms of organization, if you don't mind. And I think I WILL get each 6 sent as you decant them, so $67 and I added fees so you should get the $69.31 I just sent. :)

Thanks soooooo much again for doing this circle. I owe you. And you know what you'll be getting from me for sure as part of my thank you! We'll make that swap/sale happen as soon as I'm caught up. :)

The Echo imp jumped ship on the first package (ok, really I was thinking only about getting them out quickly it slipped my mind) but it will be included in the 2nd package!
