While in the shower this morning, my phone rang with two incoming calls.
When I got out, two voicemail messages were waiting for me, both from the
same number. One was just a click, and the second was left presumably
after the caller had determined that he had dialed the number he was
given.
For various reasons, the outgoing message on my voicemail does not list
my name. If I did, it would probably cut down on the number of misdirected
VM messages, but as this number is statistically insignificant, it hasn't
bothered me. Also, if I did, I wouldn't get to listen to messages like
this:
"This is Louis... calling, uh, I'm answering a call that
you, uh, made to George [XXXXXXX], about... gravity, I think, and he
asked me to respond for him because I'm associated with The Foundation.
My number is 513-[XXX-XXXX]. 513-[XXX-XXXX]. Thank you."
How intriguing. I haven't called any Georges recently, and I certainly
don't have any theories on gravity worth calling someone up to discuss
them. Almost makes for a beginning to a short story, methinks. Random
person is suddenly thrust into a shadowy underworld by the accidental
receipt of a mysterious voicemail message alluding to "The Foundation",
yadda yadda yadda...
Ok, so the world is rarely so sinister as my imagination makes it out
to be. But the most surprising part about this to me is that not
only did Google tell me who called, but that I found
a Wikipedia entry
about him. Hardly a brush with celebrity kind of story, but it
amused me nonetheless. The article also tells what this mysterious
"Foundation"
might be.
Oooo, maybe it is a sinister tale after all...
