Part Three

"We have called this session of the Witch Council because of the rising threat here in Belladonna Cove.  I'm talking, of course, about the voodoo priestess now living here," Frances began the meeting.

"As most of you know Ophelia Nigmos has tracked the magic's source to Tina Traveller, a young woman attending Academie le Tour.  She also confirmed that the magic Tina performed was something minor, giving someone a dream I think," Phoebe Adams interjected.  "And I've already set up some defensive enchantments that should keep her from doing any much damage."

"Until she gains full control of her magic, that is," Frances reminded Phoebe.  "You should know better than anyone the dangers of allowing a voodoo priestess to become powerful."

"We can't let one bad experience with voodoo magic turn us against it forever.  There is no reason to suspect that Tina Traveller will turn out like her ancestor," Phoebe retorted.

"This wasn't just 'one bad experience'!  It took years to fix the problems she caused!  We tried being nice and hopeful last time and it didn't work, so now I suggest we act while we still can and burn the voodoo doll!"

That was when Ophelia cut in.  "There's still time before Tina becomes powerful enough to pose any threat.  Meanwhile we have bigger issues here, or are you two forgetting that we still don't know how she got the voodoo doll?"

Frances had to admit Ophelia was right.  During her trip to Twikki Island she'd discovered the local witch doctor was short on one voodoo doll, but he'd claimed not to know what had happened to it.  Frances had even used magic to ensure he told the truth, and still he stuck to the same story; that he'd woken up from his nap one day and the doll was gone.

"I'm going to take a trip to Twikki Island of my own to see if I can figure anything out, but it'll take some time.  Meanwhile someone should keep an eye on Tina and see if they can find out anything from that end."

"I'll do it," Samantha offered.  "My step-daughter Tara just started college herself, and I think she had a few classes with Tina back in high school.  She might be able to use that to figure out how Tina got the doll, and if we have anything to fear from Tina."

"Fine," Frances said.  "You can use your subtle tricks and focus on answering questions.  I, on the other hand, will be meeting with this Tina girl myself.  I am going to get things done!"
