Surf R'lyeh
I have been watching the body count caused by this massive earthquake rise steadily, and I cannot help but be reminded of the Lovecraftian inspired story I am working on in which the Deep Ones trigger massive underwater landslides to cause a series of tsunami to wreak havoc on the west coast. (That is the opening volley of a war between the Deep Ones and men.) Well, sometimes reality is a lot stranger than fiction. ;)
It looks like the latest figure is 116,000+ dead, and I am sure that it will continue to climb for a while still. An earthquake triggered wave managed to kill more people in Asia than us dropping a couple of nuclear bombs. Kind of puts things in perspective.
Now just imagine if this had been a decent size meteor hitting the ocean... we would easily be counting the death toll in the millions, (tens of millions if it was large enough.)
One more reason to not own a beach house.
