I'd never expected the city to look like this.

Sei told me what you're planning to do. Are you sure that's what you want?

[Filter: Douwe]

Would you like anything from Lighthalzen? I never I realized today I never gave you a Christmas gift.

You're in Lighthalzen?

No, I can't really think of anything I need. It's okay, you're singing was a Christmas gift enough!

How are you doing?

Yes, I'm visiting a sick friend. My ex-husband, actually.

If I see anything I think you'd like, then. You remember my singing? I'd hoped nobody would have noted it.

I think that I'm fine. I'm not quite myself, but I'm fine. How are you?

Oh. Will he be okay?

It was very nice singing, really. Much better than Sei. Granted, Killer is a better singer than Sei, but yours was still very nice.

Not quite yourself? I'm fine. Stress is getting a bit high and more fights are breaking out, so I'm watching some people and trying to keep them from doing more stupid things. It rarely works.

No.

You don't have to say that, but thank you. I don't think he's that bad, at least not as bad as everyone makes him out to be. I don't know, I haven't heard many people sing, though.

I'm sorry to hear that. Was it those same men again, or does everyone fight with one another?

...oh. I'm sorry.

I'm not all that knowledgable into singing myself, but it doesn't seem like he is able to hit the notes that he's trying for. Exuberant, though, which is both good and bad.

Which same men? Everyone really fights with each other, mostly for training and sparring purposes, but it's easy enough to get injured that way. Not that last night was either of those. They pretty much woke everyone up.

I suppose so. Maybe I just don't have a very good ear for music.

Caspar and the older man he fought with.

I see. That's [pause/ not very considerate of them.

Oh. No, that was peculiar. Caspar...he had been on a mission most of the year, so I don't know him all that well, but he isn't one of the people who fights all that often.

This was Arden and Shiva. Shiva was...I'm not entirely sure why he was going on about it NOW, but he was going on about how the mission to getting the Feltzens caused various members of the guild to be killed by the Feltzens (one being his wife), and Arden went to bother him and it came to blows. Which isn't rare, since I think it's a way for them to relieve stress and/or angst.

[have a lot of crossed-out starts]

Ah. It doesn't seem so strange, Arden being the way he is.

[pause]

I'd like to keep talking, Douwe, but I can't seem to find anything to write. The leftover potion from the last fight should be in a bottle in the infirmary. If it's needed, feel free to use it. It's not very strong, so you might need to be liberal with it.

Not just Arden being Arden, since Shiva is much of the same way. They've been trained to high levels of violence, so it's not all that suprising. Sort of sad, though.

Thanks! I'll keep it in mind, if just for the next time people are stupid and need healing. Someone always seems to be bruised or needs a patch up.

Hm. Well, when you get back, we could go for some walks? The forest is very pretty and, now that the snow seems to be melting, would be easier to go through. Sei and Taranis went with me earlier, and Taranis says he'd be available for more, and maybe I can get Lilith to go again. Would you like to join?

Oh. So that's common of course it is So that sort of behavior is something that's taught to assassins?

I'd like that. I'll remember to bring some warm clothes back with me.

I don't think it's taught. It's just part of the package of that kind of fighting. I'm pretty sure Knights and everyone else who focuses on combat that's so close-ranged would have the same type of reaction.

Okay! I'll keep you updated at the general times that we go and whatnot. I should probably write to everyone and see who'd want to go, if they have time...

It doesn't sound like a very healthy mindset for people in the military to have.

Alright, thank you. We'll certainly get to know the island well this way.
