Loyalty in sports is dead, and it pains my heart.
If Brett Favre is traded to the New York Jets, then loyalty in sports is dead.
I think blame rests with everyone involved. With Brett. With Mike McCarthy. With GM Thompson. Everyone.
This was a ridiculous chaotic situation from the get-go and one that never should've happened. It leaves football and sports fans everywhere, not just Packers fans, in distress. I LOVE Brett Favre, but I cannot imagine him in anything other than a Packers uniform. It hurts to see him traded to the Jets. And I'm a Saints fan.
The team was placed in a real bad situation, having changed the offensive scheme and drafting two QBs to make up for Brett's retirement. A retirement that almost ended in March, but was postponed when Brett again changed his mind.
Brett Favre is the greatest player in Packers history, but he's not bigger than the team, and the team needed to get ready for the season. You can't hold a team up until the draft and still not know if you want to come back. You just can't, and Brett missed his chance to return. The way he acted was ridiculous.
The way the Packers acted was ridiculous. This guy is your all-time greatest player! Don't treat him like a child. I defend all actions of the team logistically, regarding the act of playing football. But the way they handled the situation, acted toward Favre, acted publicly, it is just ridiculous.
Loyalty in sports is dead. This whole situation proves it, whether its the team or the player. Now it's both. Loyalty in sports is dead.
