~An Affair To Long Remember: Beren the Mortal and Lúthien the Elfmaid
In Which the Son of Barahir Meets a Girl, Accepts An Impossible Quest To Marry Her, Gets Himself Thrown In the Slammer (of Sauron), and Witnesses the Demise of the Greatest Elf In Arda. Chapter 19, "Of Beren and Lúthien," is the most famous love story of the First Age, even of Tolkien's entire legendarium. ~Melkor vs. Morgoth
In the beginning, Morgoth went by the name Melkor, which meant "He Who Rises in Might." As the strongest of the Ainur, it was a fitting name. But after he killed the Two Trees, murdered Finwe, and stole the silmarils, he was given a new name. Feanor (who, being personally affected by most of these acts, felt a special enmity towards Morgoth), called him Morgoth, which meant "Black Foe of the World."
[...]
Most of Tolkien's characters have at least two names, if not more, so the Melkor/Morgoth thing wouldn't stand out at all, if not for the interesting fact that, among the elves, the name "Morgoth" completely replaced "Melkor." [More]
