MEDIA NEWS:

From ScreenRant: Sauron, Galadriel & Elrond Confirmed For Lord of the Rings TV Show
A new report says that the classic Tolkien characters Sauron, Galadriel and Elrond will appear in Amazon's upcoming The Lord of the Rings TV show. The show will be based on Tolkien's wider mythology of Middle-Earth and is not a direct adaptation of the events depicted in his novels and the film adaptations by Peter Jackson. The plot of the show will instead focus on the events of the second age of Middle-Earth, which are included in Tolkien's Silmarillion. [Read more]

Reading the Appendices just made me realize how hard Gandalf's death in Moria would've hit Aragorn
"For nearly thirty years he laboured in the cause against Sauron; and he became a friend of Gandalf the Wise, from whom he gained much wisdom. With him he made many perilous journeys..." from Appendix A

Gandalf and Aragorn were literally brothers in arms for possibly decades fighting against The Shadow. It's honestly a damn long time for a mortal man to know someone when you think about it(Several months of knowing someone can forge a lifelong friendship for me), and their struggles together would have no doubt made them close.

When Gandalf falls and the Fellowship escapes, they of course weep until Aragorn rouses them to "weep no more" and urges them to continue onward, lending credit to how hardened of a man Aragorn is despite losing such a close companion in Gandalf, someone Aragorn possibly knew longer than any other member of the Fellowship personally.

On a last note, I actually want to state that I like the way the movie portrayed Aragorn in the moments after Gandalf falls. Aragorn is the last to leave, still staring in utter disbelief at the broken bridge all the while orc arrows whizz by him. The actor(Viggo) portrays that he is in a state of shock and is almost oblivious to his surroundings with his eyes bulging, which would not be unbelievable for an individual who just saw a brother in arms whom they had fought with for years and years fall to their doom.

RESEARCH AIDS:. From Middle-earth and J.R.R. Tolkien Blog:
Was Tharbad Ever An Independent City-state?
There has been far more speculation published than “fact” about the history of Tharbad. In fact, you could say that the history of Tharbad with which most people are familiar is probably more contrived from fan fiction and role-playing game materials than from J.R.R. Tolkien’s own writings. Although I have tried to write about the history of Tharbad here on this Website there is hardly anything canonical about its history. Most of the information Tolkien himself provided was included in various notes and essays that Christopher Tolkien published in Unfinished Tales of Numenor and Middle-earth.
