Part 1- Hedonism.
London

Some months later.

The air is warmed, even more so now that he’s based down South most of the time. Yet early in the morning, the light remains hazy along the Embankment, and now and then he gets his face slapped by a dew soaked spider’s web. He is grateful that there is no-one else to come between him and his smoke filled reverie; He noticed all the joggers sticking to St. James’s park and that here in Victoria gardens, he could remain alone in his thoughts.

Peace was becoming harder to come by, now that the Arctic Monkeys had burst into instant fame. Being in London meant the pressure was lightened a little for his family back home. Also, it was easier to be alone in a crowd and Londoners prided themselves on pretending to ignore him in the street.

It also meant it seemed more natural when he spent time with Miles. A lot of time. They could claim it was work. Better record those songs we wrote and get them sorted He mused. Neither gave a fuck whether people knew it went beyond that. Hardly unusual in London, and a lot of their friends were no straighter.

Today Miles wasn’t in Town though. Alex considered a long boring night ahead. Maybe something will turn up Although since all his pleasure revolved around Miles and guitars, it seemed likely a night writing songs would be on the cards. He typed out a text for Miles, then deleted it. Stuffing his phone into his pocket, he swapped his cigarettes for his gloves, turned his collar up against remaining chill and started off towards the South Bank, Big Ben chiming him past.
