I find that first definition very confusing but it makes sense. If you order 10 pieces of cherry lumber, any 10 pieces will do so long as they are of the same quality. I suppose this is applicable to anything that's "graded." If I ask Ty to pick up a dozen Grade A eggs, he can get any pack of Grade A eggs. You can also say "fungibles" instead of fungible commodities. Now I get to confuse my daughter by asking her if she'd like her fungibles scrambled or hard-boiled!
