hiya,
cheers for it - I'm beginning to think thta way too. I mean, I'm only grade 5, and 14, and been out of the loop for 2 years whilst I've been in hospital, but I still am really serious about wanting do follow ballet... whatever anyone says (and generally they don't think I'm mad), a dream is a dream, not matter the inevitabilty.
I'm not on pointe, and can't do splits. Can u recommend any stretches. And what kind of excercises are good for ballet and physique - i know running can dgive ur shins a world of shite, but, i dunnno... at 14 i need help!!!
I just want to get better at ballet, and i can't let my eating hold me back - I was looking at some stats of dancers and natalia makarova was my height, and 95 lbs and people thought she was a beautifully sylph-proportioned dancer. So i'm getting to that. My mum said that really skinny dancers with 'ed' on their health records won't get a word in edgeways applying to schools/companies - you have to be thin, but not ridiculously so.
Can i add u to my friends?
It's nice to have others addvice - can;t trust doctors or parents, because the health is always first and foremost with them, not the dance!

ok, well to start - i hate to burst your bubble, but if you are not en pointe yet by age 14 it is unlikely you will be able to make a career out of ballet, unless you have an absolutely perfect body - and by that I mean hugely arched feet, 180-degree turnout, extensions up to your ears, and the ability to turn like a top.
that being said, i commend your dedication and would be glad to offer you help. If you're 14 and not on pointe yet, you definetly need to begin strengthening your feet. therabands are one of the best ways to do this. to use them, flex your foot and place the band at the ball of your foot. rolling through demi-pointe, pointe your foot through the arch, pushing against the band. these offer resistance to make your foot stronger. if you're not sure how this works, i'm pretty sure there are how-to videos on youtube. in fact, youtube is also a good resource. i know of at least one physical therapist for a ballet company who posts videos on how to deal with common problems.

while i'm on that topic, you might also want to consider joining dance.net, which has a lot of great exercises and stretches for re-starting dancers. here is an example.

one of the most crucial problems in lost time is turnout. this is much harder to gain than foot strength, and even if your lucky enough to have naturally decent turnout, you NEED to start working developing the strength to use it. for this, i would work on your splits and do frog stretches.
however, i must stress above all else that you really need to go back to class. as a warning - i went through a similar experience when i was 11 - my family traveled to europe and i was unable to dance. when i returned, i discovered that ballet was completely different from the way i imagined it as a child. there are several basic principles in ballet - such as the ability to rotate your hips in the socket, keep your shoulders down without pressing the blades through your back, pointe your foot without curling your toes, etc. that are very technical and take a lot of hard work to master. i was talking about turnout earlier - even if you do splits and so on, to actually build strength and rotate your hips is not something i can explain over the internet. you need to have a competent teacher explain it to you or even manipulate your body so that you can physically feel it.

it's fine that you added me, but i do disagree with your statement. to dance, you need to be healthy. you can hire a nutritionist who will help you gain weight in a way that is mentally and physically sound in regards to ballet.
if you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Danke
My teacher says as soon as my general point improves i can get on pointe, so fingers crossed that is soon. I am back in class (grade 5 and intermediate foundation) and my teacher knows that I'm v. serious about dance, even though i'm a pretty late re-starter.

Is there anythig u r advised not to eat, or to eat? Hear darcey bussell limits wheat...

do you mean grade 5 by the RAD syllabus?

uhm, obv. i would just eat healthy. lots of lean protein to build up muscle, ensure's nutritional shakes if need be.
and no offense, but the chatspeak is grating my brain. D:
