My new obsession is saving on fancy groceries using coupons on already-discounted items.
The game is to collect as many coupons as possible, then get the absolute lowest price I can on organic foods (if not organic, then at least no-hormones-no-additives-all-natural hippie-type foods.) The grocery store just got a whole lot funner for me: It's become a challenge where everybody wins (and by everybody I mean me.)
Last night I bought $150 worth of groceries at Safeway, with coupons etc savings equaling $29. That was pretty good. I can do better though -- there were things I really wanted (organic raspberries! fancy cottage cheese! the expensive soup that Andy likes!) that I splurged on as a reward for doing good; there are some items I now feel like I'll never spend full price on again, and others that, if I want it, I'm going to get it anyway.
Also, if you know where to get coupons for larabars, please let me know.
