Author's Note: I struggled with this one, and then BAM!! I got a great idea. I hope you enjoy.

Rick Castle was the luckiest man in the world. He had a wonderful, if not slightly crazy mother. Alexis was off at Harvard, becoming a doctor. His wife, Kate, was the smartest, most kick ass detective, not mention the hottest.

And their kids were interested in following their parents' footsteps in solving murders.

What could be better?

"They're just interested in seeing what an investigation is all about," Kate reminded him. "We're lucky they still want to spend time with us."

It didn't matter to Rick. Their kids were destined to be great detectives or murder mystery writers...second to only him and Kate of course.

Their teenagers, Sam and Josie, had asked Kate if they could go to the precinct and see the workings of an active investigation. Because Kate had been wary of having the kids there with potential suspects, she'd found a murder mystery dinner on a boat that cruised around the island. The teenagers were excited about the idea, and two weeks later, the four of them were at a pier in downtown Manhattan, waiting to board the boat.

"Do you think they'll have a body?" Sam asked. "They should totally have a body."

Kate smirked. "It'll probably be a fake body if they do have one."

"I hope the story is consistent," Josie said. "Nothing sucks more than details that change or are forgotten." At Kate's glare, Josie turned slightly red. "I mean, um...stinks more."

Wrapping his arm around his daughter, Rick pulled her to him. "You are so right, sweet pea. And so very smart." Then he turned with a smug smile to Kate and Sam. "Which is why we will solve this investigation first."

Kate and Sam sputtered at the same time. "Really?" Kate wondered. "You really think you guys are going to beat us?"

Sam laughed. "Dad, you're not even a real detective."

Rick held his hand over his heart in mock pain. "How dare you say that?!"

"Dad, Mrs. Victoria says you're not a detective."

"She'll come around."

Crossing her arms over her chest, Kate rolled her eyes. "You've been saying that for almost twenty years."

Rick opened his mouth several times, before finally sputtering. "Well, she-I...I will...No matter! Let's not forget the matter of our bet."

"Whoever solves the mystery first doesn't have to do dishes on Thanksgiving," Josie stated.

"I can't believe we're doing this," Kate muttered.

"What's wrong?" Rick teased. "Afraid you'll lose?"

"Please," Kate huffed. "You two are going to be the ones scrubbing pots and pans."

"You wish."

"Castle, I don't have to wish because this will come true."

As they continued to bicker, neither heard Sam whisper to his sister, "And they yell at us for fighting in public?"
