Love Rules

Last night turned out to be truly bizarre. Sometimes when there is a show that I want to cover for the paper the rep doesn't come through in time to get me press tickets and I put it out of my mind. That happened with the Heart show. In fact I was told they wouldn't have ANY tickets to give away so I completely dismissed it. Well lo and behold yesterday I received an email telling me I could go with just one ticket, and a pass for a photographer who could shoot pics then leave after only three songs (please.....like I have time to deal with that drama). Well how can I pass a free ticket to Heart?

Let me say that it was totally worth going. I was completely surrounded by burnt out 50-something rockers in the 9th row. Before the show all the long hair nasty's were talking about Skynard's bassist, Zep's drummer, etc. I knew nothing of what they were saying. When the lights went down everyone rushed the stage before the girls were even on it. Security had no chance. The girls came out and Nancy had permed, scrunchy hair and Ann was wearing a long black velvet coat with combat boots. Nancy wailed the opening riff of "Magic Man" on her guitar and I knew that my trek was completely worth it. I have never seen so many Moms and Dads banging their heads, it was awesome. And holy shit Ann can fucking SING!! She wailed, screamed and belted through the whole thing. By the end they were both sweaty messes and they closed with "Dreamboat Annie" with Ann playing a flute! Rock on Girls! One long haired rocker hag exclaimed during an interlude between songs with a thunderstorm rolling, "THIS IS GOING TO BE FUCKING POWERFUL!"

The only down side is that my bf and my friends should have been there because they would have loved it. Next time for sure, a show totally worth it's ticket price.

This was one of the encores....listen to that woman's voice!
