Singing

I enjoy singing although I do seem to have an apprehension to just go for it and get out there.  It's funny because every time I try to practice and sing at home, Banchee, our older cat, comes up and bites me.  She bites whatever part of my body is most accessible at the time but purrs.  Purr, purr, purr, bite!  I can't get through whole song.  
Who knows what this means?  Is this a message to push beyond the distractions?  Or, do we just have a nutty cat that I'm going to have to lock in the bedroom if ever I want to get serious about practicing.
