Who gets married on December 20th?

So I've survived a twinless night and reminiscing about swim class. What's next on the docket....

Christmas!

Okay, so I'm not done shopping yet. Chances are, the next time I'll get to go out and finish is on the 23rd. This weekend is completely out, because I have a wedding to go to up in Cooperstown. Why? Because that's where the baseball hall of fame is. (Both are huge fans of the Yankees.)

Now, the groom is a good friend of mine, I'm in the wedding party, and I'd like to take a moment to speak in behalf of the wedding guests on the subject of consideration.

1. I love the groom dearly, he's like a brother to me, so of course I'll be there for him no matter what. That all being said...

You're having your wedding the weekend BEFORE Christmas, 8 hours away from where ANY of your guests live??? It's WINTER you idiot! It SNOWS upstate, like BAD snow. It's very romantic that you want to have a horse drawn sleigh. In reality, you are going to freeze your ass off. Neither is especially fond of the cold weather.

2. My dress? My dress cost well over 200. It was 248, to be exact. Then there was an extra 46 dollars for the muff. Yes. The muff, you know, a furry thing that you stick your hands into to keep them warm. The dress has sheer sleeves with a light velvet inlay. They plan on having outdoor pictures. IN. THE. SNOW. We can't freeze, of course, so for 120 dollars, there's the shawl that matches the muff. A furry shawl. The ankle boots (not geared for winter) were on sale for 60. I'm bringing galoshes. The dress should cover them anyway. Total cost (not including tax) $474. Near FIVE HUNDRED BUCKS! But again, fine, you agree to be in a wedding party, you expect a few expenses.

3. They reserved a block of rooms up in Copperstown, each costing 200 bucks. That's actually not bad, because it's a double room, and I've teamed up with 3 other bridesmaids, so 100 each for the room, plus tax and stuff.

4. They want people there Friday, for the rehearsal (I know how to smile and walk at the same time, what do I really have to practice?) It will be in the afternoon - as in 1:30 in the afternoon, because there's a wedding in the church that night. So the choice is to go up on Thursday night, or since the place is 8 hours away, leave no later than 3 am to make sure you get up there on time. They're requesting everyone come up Thrusday night, because won't it be fun to all go to breakfast together before the rehearsal? And look! For just 30 bucks a person, they have a huge buffet! They're paying for the dinner that night, but then the wedding isn't until 7:00 Saturday night, so sign us up for another breakfast.

Again, keep in mind that this is the weekend right before Christmas, when money is usually tight to begin with. So without including gas to fill the car? It's costing me at least 700 bucks to be in their wedding.

I can understand. I can, or at least I try. I know, brides dream of a big picture perfect wedding, and I really do hope she gets one, but couldn't she at least be a little considerate? January would have been awesome. I could have gone in January and not skipped a beat because Christmas would have been done and paid for. But as it is, my friends who are in the wedding also or who are attending - we've all agreed not to exchange gifts this year. When she announced the date, I specifically pointed out that it was right before Christmas, but it fell on deaf ears.

I SO should have backed out.

My being there IS their gift.
