Holidaze approaching

Dec 23, 2003 17:13

I just can't seem to find enough time to write anything, these days. I knew that December was going to be a blur, but I suppose I wasn't prepared for how fast it would appear to fly by. Ah well. I've had a great time.

We had the HOTBears holiday party at Marcus and Ed's beautiful home, again this year. I suppose it goes without saying that it was a blast. There was a bartender, and the food was incredibly delicious. It's a bit of a pity that the heater in the pool picked that day to break, but what's a bear to do. Ed had an hilarious Christmas display this year, titled (if I'm remembering correctly) "The Bad Bear and the Tasty Baby Jesus" ... thanks to the cub reporter, Mike, for taking such a wonderful photo of it, and some others of me and John. For one reason or another, I was squinting a lot that night, it appears. There is a nice picture of my shiny new haircut, too. That's Jack on the left, me and Laszlo, looking at something on the computer.

The next day was John's store's holiday party, at our house. I put up a page of thumbnails for that. We had so much food! Not nearly enough people showed up, but we all had fun exchanging gag gifts and watching the season finale of Survivor.

John went to Mineola to see his father, last week, from Monday until Wednesday. He was giving me a hard time for tom-catting around while he was gone. I went to Jack & Mike's on Monday night to help them (a little bit, I hope) trim their tree. That was fun, seeing all their Star Trek ornaments and the variety of novelty Christmas lights they have. I really had a nice time. The next night, Tuesday, I met them again, this time at the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar --- one of my favourite things about Austin during the holidays. Anytime you mix local craftspeople/artists with live music and let the public drink and be merry while they shop, I think it's a recipe for a fun time. Afterwards, we hit Magnolia Cafe for breakfast and that's always a tasty treat.

This past Saturday, John and myself hooked up with Jack and Mike again, this time to see Return of the King. We wanted very good seats this year, so we were at the theatre around 11am, for a 2:40pm showing --- hey, it got us first in line! It was a superb film; really grabbed hold of the audience's emotions. Yes, I did catch myself with tears in my eyes a few times. Sunday, Roy had his Christmas bridge party at our house, and me and John sat out --- I worked on printing some "holiday cards" (in quotes because most folks won't see them until after Christmas, itself) and wrote a few letters to the grandparents.

I'm going to spend Christmas with John's family in Mineola, this year. We're leaving tomorrow, Christmas Eve, as early as I can leave work. We're probably not coming back to Austin until Sunday. So, Happy Christmas, friends! Have some fun for me.
