You -can- invite people to a community, but unless you know the person personally, most people get really pissed off when they get random invitations to communities, because they look at it as spam. Not only that, but almost no one ever remembers to check for invitations (you don't get a message or anything, you actually have to go to the page and look) so if you -do- invite people you know in person, you should also leave a short comment on their LJ letting them know you invited them (and also how to check for invites in case they don't know, a lot of people don't know how).
There are two main ways to promote your community.
1) Join the community community_promo and make a post there (READ THE RULES FIRST! THEY ARE VERY PICKY!) letting people know about your community. Not a lot of people check there often though, so it doesn't always work very well

this is my user info. It needs tweaking, but its the general idea of what I have in mind. I dont really care that much about it being a popular thing, if just a few people were to get inspired by it would be enough for me. (maybe i should add that part in:) but here is the user info

My weight loss is 90 percent for health reasons, and I would be lying if I didnt say that I didn't want to look better and fit better in my clothes.
I would change the "and" to "but" here, ... "but I would be lying..."
Keep track of who is who, only need "whom" if it's the object of a preposition. (to whom, for whom, from whom)
Also, I think I'd switch the order of the paragraphs. I think that first one is really important, but it's probably more important to say what your community -is- about first, and then say what you don't want it to become.
But overall, I think you did a really good job writing it, and I'm really glad you put the stuff about being healthy in there, very smart choice :)
i felt it was totally necessary to make that note about being healthy. 60 pounds is A LOT to loose and im more than sure ill attact some of thoes people looking for new ways to be unhealthy.
