A not so well-balanced life
So, I'm utterly bummed that school and work got in the way of giving my mom a huge gift for her huge birthday today. She told me earlier that she was just going to bring a cake for herself to her office and mostly just celebrate quietly. It is at this point my mind is saying, "Nuh-uh!"
It's true. My mom has proved half a century's worth of love today and therefore I wish I could have given her the biggest and greatest of all days instead of having her celebrate all by her lonesome-- at least my dad took her out to eat later-- but 'no,' I didn't have time.
I suppose in the long run, what I did end up doing (calling and singing 'Happy Birthday' to her over the phone) is just as good in her mind as anything else I could have come up with, but still-- she's my mom and even if we don't always get along I wanted this day to be special for her.
I hope and pray today was in fact special for her . . . yes, that's the least I can do.
