Thursday and Friday

Showing off my shiny, pretty new icon, made by silkess.

Thursday, went down to the nearby plaza (about a fifteen minute walk or so) with sis, so she pushed herself for a bit (since the beginning of the walk is downhill), then I pushed her for a while, she pushed, I got her up the small ramp for the plaza, and we went for fish and chips for lunch. Got her inside the first set of doors fine... and if her wheelchair was an inch or two wider, never would have gotten her inside. As it was, I had to push her through, and she kept her arms close to herself. The halibut and fries were delicious, the saganaki (flaming cheese, usually lit at a table then the flames doused by squeeing the juice from a lemon chunk) wasn't quite as good as the Mr. Greek in the opposite direction, lots of yummy garlic buttery goodness for my garlic bread and cheese, but not much cheese per slice (so the Pizza Nova version is still the best I can get around here, when it's fresh from being cooked).

Hit The Bargain Shop, and sis had to go through the exit/cashier part, to get into the store... turntile, to go in the proper way. No way was she going to get through that, with her wheelchair. Another lady was in an electric wheelchair in the line up when we were finished, so I held the door open after she got by sis, to go outside. It's gotta be a pain to get into and out of places, when physically challenged people don't have someone with them, to help, nevermind high shelves, or tiny aisles.

Hit the Dollarama, had fun getting sis in (had to use the exit, no way could she have made it through the actual entrance, then turn right and go through a small railing to get into the store), hit the bank, and double the fun... %) Yep, bad access between the parking lot, and then onto the island that the bank is on, and then pushed the button for wheelchair access to get into the bank... only there's another awful bit of pavement, and I have to push down where the anti-tilters come out, to push the chair up to get onto that bit and by then, the door is already closing.

No wheelchair access button on the inside, so I had to grab the door and hold it for her to get inside the bank properly. No problem inside the bank, and no real problem to get the stamp she wanted from the post office.

Picked up a greek salad with chicken strips for sis at Pizza Nova, another place she wouldn't get in, unless someone could push her up the ramp. Once inside the place it wasn't too bad.

No joy at the drug store for sis's fave pineapple and coconut drink. Got an iced tea.

Got ink cartridges from Future Shop, and 10% off them, and a couple of DVDs sis wanted. Got told I have a ... something... (never did catch the word and neither did sis) smile, and I should smile often. I thanked the guy.

Picked up some donuts and we came home... total, out and about, was just over three hours.

Going with sis to the pool tomorrow, to help her get back to the changeroom after she does her 32 lengths (around 600 metres or so) (usually non-stop) and some exercises in the pool and then some more exercises in the hot tub.
