When Darkness turns to Light

Chapter 7

Luke lay in bed, “staring” at the ceiling.  He pushed the button on his clock to hear the time for umpteenth time in the last hour.

“The time is now 1:45 am.”

He had tried to sleep but every time he closed his eyes he kept seeing the kiss from his earlier fantasy. And the kiss, while not real, had felt unlike any kiss he had ever shared with Noah.  The passion and spark that he had “felt” was intense.  He was in love with Noah, so why was he fantasizing about kissing another man?  And why did he feel disappointed when Reid had called him his friend and that Luke knowing his sexual orientation wouldn't change that?

After leaving Luke's cabin, Reid decided to go for a run before bed to clear his head.  He hadn't planned on telling Luke that he was gay, it just sort of came out during the conversation about Noah's apparent jealousy of him.  As far as whether Reid was interested in Luke as Noah thought, he wasn't even sure himself.  Sure he found the man attractive, but who wouldn't.  And yes, he enjoyed spending time with the man and definitely thought Luke deserved better than Noah.  But even if he was interested in him, Luke had a boyfriend and wasn't available. Even if said boyfriend was a complete douche, Luke loved him and that was all that mattered.  Reid would never break up a couple. He wasn't that guy.  There was also the fact that Luke was his patient.  Even if he was interested in the blonde, he could never and would never act on it while Luke was under his care.  It would be unethical and could cost him his medical license.

Instead of running the trails on Lucinda's property, Reid decided to run through Old Towne.  He was running past Al's when he saw Noah through the window laughing with another guy.  The guy had longer stringy blonde hair and was wearing some weird scarf around his neck. Noah's back was to Reid and the doctor took advantage of that to watch the two men interact.  They seemed very chummy with each other. He noticed that Noah appeared way too dressed up to have supposedly been at work earlier.  He was more dressed for a date.  He then noticed the program for the Oakdale Film Festival on the table next to them.  Was Noah such a douche that he would stand up Luke to go on a date with another guy?  As Reid watched the men for a moment longer he couldn’t help but wonder if all of Noah's other “emergencies” at work had actually been dates with Mr. Scarf.  Whatever was going on, one thing was for sure, Reid couldn’t say anything to Luke about what he had seen until he knew more.  But if Noah was cheating on Luke with Mr. Scarf, all bets were off.
