Wedding Showers in the South
People at a California weddings people usually bring the gifts there. But apparently here they have a huge shower before or after the wedding.
We had our shower yesterday, huge undertaking 21 people voluntered to help hostess (make juice and cucumber sandwiches and setup). 250 invitations were sent out and we have to write 139 Thankyou cards now.
Though some gifts are deliverd to the house, most are at the shower the night before and they are opened and set on display. You walk in and it looks like a silent auction, cards in front of each gift tell the item and person so you can collect them at the end and write out thankyous.
So many people came and knew Joey when he was little ( "this tall" ) Hugging all around and people telling me they love Joey and Im so lucky. And people making sure they will get to play with the baby.
So the gifts-
We have EIGHT COMPLETE sets of Fiestaware! Plus coffee mugs and serving bowls in Fiestaware. We decided on 8 sets (us plus 3 other couples worth of dishes) and so many 'extra' were purchaced that we have to take back and exchange for something else. We kept 4 sets of Burgundy and 4 sets of cobalt. Some sets were givin to us complete and some people purchaced a few pieces, it covered two long tables.
8 Beautiful hand blown glasses with red and blue swirls. 4 Goblets with blue rims in a 'wine' shape and 4 in a 'hourglass' shape. and a pitcher that matches.
Beautiful floor lamp with a dk red shade, mantle clock, decorative boxes, small desk lamp, towels, 5 piece luggage set, chargers, napkin rings, 4 hand made pottery vases, placemats and cloth napkins, vases, serving trays, a pewter 'ying-yang' style tray, a BBQ set, 8 place setting silverware with hostess servingware, cakepans, triffle bowl, atomic clock, and so much more Im forgetting!
We packed it in Joeys 'MawMaw's car and are storing it in her spare room till we move. Though we are taking some things with us and have a bunch of stuff to exchange Tuesday.
I was so tired after all that I had to lay down for a nap. And apparently the baby showers are worse!
