I have learned how understand my boss. Every time he says
"Youve got to be shitting me!"
what hes really saying is
"Tara your brilliant!"
Hell need something done and Ill take care of it without him asking me. Ill find a cheaper way of doing something, which of course makes money and he loves that. (I found his weakness!) and most recently he took a manual with him out of town accidently and I needed to mail it to a customer. I looked it up online and printed it off and mailed the package and he was floored, he didnt think about doing it that way. It was brilliant!
Ive been here a month and I have keys to the office, postofficebox, the firebox with signed blank checks (sometimes a check needs to be sent and hes not here so he pre-signs the business checks), the company credit card, and the safe, where we drop all the cash. I commented to Joey that I could make off with a few grand before my boss noticed. Not in the 'Im gonna steal the money' but in the 'my boss trusts me' kinda way. He left me with a lot of responsibility and power, thats so cool.
There are 3 fulltime employees and a few partime that come when they are needed. Anyways they all are nice and we all get along wonderfully. Im in charge of a bunch of stuff, but nobody here is really the 'boss' of anyone else, except the owner. But its nice Ive gone out to dinner or lunch with co-workers. We blast music when working in the office late.
The owner has a good sense of humor, Ive basically taken over his office/desk because Im on the computer all day, but he left paperwork on the desk and was about to leave and I made a comment like 'what did you do to my desk!?' and he laughed. His goal is to clear off one of the small writing desks in here for himself, he doesnt use it that often, and I get to keep the big desk.
I actually love this job. I get paid well, have a bunch of freedom I wouldnt have at a regular job. This is what I do best. Organizing things, playing in the internet, selling stuff on ebay, working on the website. Its brilliant. Best job ever!
