wow....look at the new livejournal posting page! haha
anywho, yea like i said in my subject its that time again. time for the "holiday" season. and by "holiday" i actually mean christmas, further commercializing christianity into an almost financial - not religious - institution, having "family time," being loaded up with guilt to get everyone something to show i actually care about them, and the complete and utter degradation of our already materialistic world. whew! long sentence. i truly hate this "holiday" season. i mean, im all up for feeling good, taking time off from the mundane, enjoying "family" time. but come on! does it really have to involve christianity to do that? or how about how people feel its only the holidays when they're out shopping for useless tchakas that have no practical value? and its only just begun. we still have another absofuckinglutely amazing 2 weeks of this bs. then, new years (slighly better) and off for a well appreciated lull. (now, lull means christian holidays. theres still those amazing times for valetnine's day, father's day, mother's day, hallmark day...)
what bugs me the most is that people in America have considered christmas to be an American holiday. hello! separation of church and state anyone?! what about other holidays, such as hanukah or kwanaza? what about those buddhists who preach non-materialism and yet are slammed in the face daily by ads for "christmas sales," "holiday specials" and oh so much more? if anything, they have it the worst. how can they possibly abide by the teachings of their religion if another religion is so arrogant and domineering over the world? news flash! there are other religious beliefs and ideals rather than from christianity! like take this example: i was talking to a friend of mine who is asian and buddhist. she is actually agnostic (it seems) but yet she still celebrates christmas with her family, because what she said, "its for the holidays since they're American." wtf! its just so....wrong! idk i know some people probably may be offended by this post. heck! im putting this public! ppl need to hear some new thoughts ouside their comfort zone of society and i may as well facilitate that process.
another thing that annoys me is the fact that christianity is so dominant and seemingly inconsiderate. crusades anyone? inquisition? American society? and whats really strange is with the colonization that happened. Europeans came to Africa a long time ago. they brought missionaries and "persuaded" (i.e. forced) locals to practice christianity. and they did at the time because of fear. whats making African Americans now? i mean, it really only happened like 400 yrs ago. i think now they are a little safer in going back to their African roots and African religious beliefs/practices. no? yea the tradition of being chrisitian is quite strong, but arent there even pro-Africa African Americans that might leave christinaity to spite the missionaries from their "peaceful" conversions? what the hell!
i sorta digressed from talking about materialism and stuff. i had one more thought. it also really sucks about it all because i cant stop it. if i dont give gifts, say the proper greetings for the holidays, or live in the American holiday spirit, i get so much crap from everyone, its not even funny. like my family. if no presents, i get guilt. friends? guilt. i hate to say something like this - being modest and all - but i know a crap load of ppl! and since im usually nice to ppl, they mostly expect me to give them something. last year for valentines day, i felt so guilty, i pulled an all nighter making cards for friends (like I was going to spend money on it? hah!). why cant ppl just see that its disgusting how bad our society has become with all the corporate ppl trying to make more money by crap sentiments (which have foolishly become "genuine sentiments").
so thats my shpiel for tongiht. i have 2 study some more for all the tests my teachers feel is appropriate to pile on the last week before midterms. dumbbutts....
