I went to their show last night in Los Angeles at The Roxy. They were playing with Attack Decay, Skyfox, and MC Lars. The show was really great and I had a TON of fun. We were right in front row, center. Right at the edge of the stage, I could touch the amps if I wanted too. Really great spot.
Attack Decay was intresting. They had a lot of equipment and intruments. The bassist also played the Teramin (at least that's what I think it was...) using his hand and a small flash light. That was intresting. They were giving out a lot of sample CD's. I ended up with four, I think, because they just kept handing them out. Some songs were instrumental, some had lyrics. Lots of petals for the guitars and repeaters for the drums. Interesting, but I wouldn't go out of my way to buy their CD right off. The guys in the band clearly love what they do, so that made me enjoy their show. The lead singer said that this was only their 3rd show. So, good for them!
Then Skyfox was up. I really liked these guys. The Guitarist's family members lived close by, the band said they were crashing with them, and the family came to the show to support them. There were a few people there who knew all their lyrics, so that was cool. They put on a great show. They had a lot of energy and were really fun. The lead singer almost has a voice like the guy from Bowling For Soup. They were more on the rock side and I really enjoyed them. At the Merch booth they were giving out free posters to anyone who signed up for their mailing list. They all signed them for me too and we had a really fun conversation. They were really nice guys and I bought their CD.
MC Lars was next. I'd heard a few of his songs. There were a lot of people that really liked him at the concert and knew his stuff. I really enjoyed him too. He is a rapper, with acutal lyrics and a great sense of humor. He raps about old school lit. like Poe and Moby Dick. He had a song where he had us say "Goin' hard on the tetrameter" several times. Which is great, because I'm a word nerd. Not a lot of people knew what that was, but listening to the lyrics in the song, he explained it was how Poe wrote his short stories. Like how Shakespere writes in iambic pentameter. Anyway, I digress... MC Lars was really fun and crazy full of energy, dancing around the stage and being awesome. Really nice guy, too.
I Fight Dragons game on and they rocked the house. They were surprised how energetic and awesome the crowd was. They played great songs and everyone was singing the words with them. Bill had a problem with his controlers not working at one point, so we were just talking to the band for a bit, it was pretty funny. They decided to play With You anyway and about a minute into the song, the controlers came back up. It rocked. We didn't mind at all. They also played KaBoom!, Crazies, Heads up Hearts Down and many others. As always they end with Zelda. I love that. Cheer loud enough and they just might do an encore! :) I got one of Brian's guitar pick's that he threw into the crowd. Also Chad tossed his drum sticks. They hit my sister's knee, but another fan snatched them up. Haha.
To answer your question, they had the Cool is Just a Number and Welcome to the Breakdown EP's along with their KaBoom! CD. But nothing newer than that. They said the tour's CD hasn't been released yet. They did play a new song called Seek and Destroy that was really good but they said they hadn't finished recording it yet.
They came out for a meet and greet after the show. I got to tell them that I saw them back in 2009 while they were on tour with MC Chris. In Pensacola, FL at this horrible dive bar called Sluggo's. Brian gave me a horrified face when I told him that. I laughed because I knew what he was going to say. He said that particular show was the worst of their carreer because the PA system didn't even work for half of their set. Luckily, I was close to the stage and was able to still hear them the whole time and I told him I fell in love with the band despite the issues.
That same night, during MC Chris's preformance, I got hardcore elbowed in the face by some jerk who was being an idiot. My nose started to bleed so I made my way to the back of the crowd. (to MC Chris's credit, he saw the whole thing and stopped the show. He threw the guys out who'd hit me and wouldn't play again until they were totally gone.) So, instead of going back into the show, I hung out at the bar with I Fight Dragons. (After I had cleaned up the mess the bloody nose came with) They were really nice to me and it was way fun to talk to them. They all remembered me and Packy even said "Oh yeah, bloody nose girl, I totally remember you! Good to see you again! Glad you didn't bleed this time." It was great.
I love this band and how awesome they all are personally. They really care about their fans. They rock and I hope to go to many more of their concerts!
