Michelle Waggoner dies at 26 in clinical trial for InsomniPlex
Oklahoma resident Michelle Waggoner died last week in a clinical trial at the OU Medical Center. She was 26.
According to her family, Waggoner had been experiencing problems with sleeping at night. After watching an ad on television, Waggoner started participating in a trial meant to study and treat problems with insomnia. Waggoner was on a clinical trial for a new drug called InsomniPlex. She had been doing rather well, said her family, until last week when Waggoner started to display a series of side effects-depression, headaches, thoughts of suicide, stomach bleeding and ulcers, hypertension, pneumonia, porphyria, anemia, diarrhea, constipation, the urge to gamble, track-racing thoughts, the desire to run down pedestrians while driving, and immaculate pregnancy. Waggoner was taken to the hospital with an extremely high fever that soon resulted in death by spontaneous combustion.
Waggoner was a student at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Oklahoma. She had worked in customer service, tech support, marketing & advertising, design and publishing. Her hobbies included costume making, drawing, backpacking, rock repelling, and biking. Upon graduation, she had planned to illustrate for her church as well as publish graphic novels.
She was survived by her two sisters, Melinda & Melissa Waggoner; father Kim Waggoner; grandparents Shirley & Val Anderson; dog Jodie; and a cat known only as The Cat. There are also numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services will be at the Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond, Oklahoma 9 AM on January 22, 2009. The charred remains will be interred in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at Memorial Park Cemetery.
