Any other Art+Des students thinking about transfering?
I know I am, though I'm not really sure where else to go. I just want a place with a competent art program where I can choose what classes I want to take..

go to CCS, the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, or Massachusetts College of Art. Those three are great. Heres the websites:

www.artcenter.edu
www.massart.edu

I havent decided on which one i'm going to, but these three are all among my top choices.

do NOT go to the art school here!!!

it seriously sucks.

i'm spending the next semester doing all LSA classes, and starting a new student gov't against the current curriculum to change it, because it definitely needs change. me and about 15 others are going to try what we can during this next semester, and if nothing happens, we're out.

Damn, I'm jealous! All LSA courses?! How did you manage to do that? All I could to was *maybe* get out of ADP if I really don't like it next semester (meaning: if I fall asleep in every class).
What's this new gov you're starting and how can I get in on it? I was so pissed about that article in the Daily that said that SAS was basically leaving the curriculum as it is, when it SUCKS.

I'm taking Pre-Business classes, and some other stuff that is Gen. Ed. just tell your academic advisor that you are leaving the art school and "you want to get the most out of your academic experience at michigan" and they'll let you take all LSA classes...granted you can get into them. some require override, but that's not too hard to get.

Hmm.. I'm looking for a place where I can take lib art's classes too, not just art... But those places (and other just art schools) seem to have what I actually want to do (video game design). Decisions, decisions, and more apps to fill out…

i want to do graphic design. and i know pasadena and CCS have great programs in that, the only problem is that those schools are SO HARD.

i wish that there were an easy answer to life.

To get into or what the school expects from you?
I have a pretty crap porfolio since my high school didn't have serious art classes, so getting into an art school probably isn't even an option for me. But if you can go to an awesome, hard art program, over the crap we have now.. totally go for it!

both hard to get into and they expext a ton out of you.

i have a pretty terrible portfolio as well. I never took an art class in high school, which is going to be my downfall, but it never hurts to try. I thought it was saying a lot to say that I got into Umich A&D but after I got here I dont think that anymore.

I don't know how I can compete in other schools...ok enough drama.

i need to get out of this crappy school...

i never took an art class in high school.
i have a bunch of friends in umich a+d and
they all said they didn't like it.. but i
figured since i don't have experience, it'll
be good for me... but hmmmmmmmmmmmmm !!?

this art school is good for people who want to be curators of art museums, or art teachers. however, if you want to teach art, you have to take an additional two years at the school of education because this art school doesnt have an art education program. i think it's really stupid to eliminate ALL PROGRAMS so you can create your own major. (granted, it would be fine if they had enough classes for one single major, but they don't).

So I guess im left in the dark on this, with everyone else. I want to be a Graphic Designer, but there's no way that I would get hired in this world after taking only two graphic design classes. This art school eliminated Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Chemical Photography, and Medical Illustration from the curriculum. AND THIS SCHOOL WAS KNOWN FOR MEDICAL ILLUSTRATION!

I just don't understand the Dean's logic on this. it doesn't make any sense at all.

Bottom line is, If you go to the art school here, don't plan on getting a good job, plan on being a starving artist.
