I'm Feeling:
productive
So, a lot has happened recently.
Thing the 1st:
Jane has had to leave early a couple days this week because her father, who just turned 90 yesterday, God bless him, has not been doing well. The first time he was in the hospital because he hurt his back, the second because he was severely dehydrated. Just the other day, the doctor diagnosed him with acute depression, because he all of a sudden stopped eating and taking care of himself. She lives right near him, and her sister lives upstairs from him, but with the two of them at work all day, they can't always be right there. And there was never a need to worry - much like our dear
Mrs. Van Doren, he was very independent and took care of his house and mowed the lawn and everything.
Jane called at the last minute this morning, right before I got to school, to let them know that she wouldn't be coming in today and there would be no sub because of the short notice, but he fell last night. She was away from home all day too, I'm assuming, and at the end of the day one of the secretaries, Patty, came to find me to tell me that they found out that there was bleeding in this poor man's brain, and something about his left ventricle...either way, it's bad but at least they know where the problems are stemming from now.
Please keep Jane's family in your prayers. <3
Thing the 2nd:
I have ONLY ONE WEEK LEFT IN THE CLASSROOM. Holy crap. It's so hard to believe that almost an entire school year has passed since the first day I was there. I mean, didn't school just last forever while we were there? How are we on the home stretch already? And April Break this coming week...
Well, I had to bid one of my students goodbye today because she's going to Florida over break and is staying an extra week after, so this was my last day with her. I didn't know that someone so little could hug so tightly, and my heart is just beginning to break. Wait till this time 2 weeks from now. I'm going to be a mess.
Yesterday, during D.E.A.R. time, the secretary paged our room. "Mrs. D, your visitors are here." Now, here I was thinking I had it all figured out, and that it was our "Student of the Week"'s mom coming in with a snack or something (which is a story in itself, but I digress...). I was so pleasantly surprised when in come 2 of our regular room moms, bearing gifts, no less!!! I was so, so, so touched. I had no idea that I actually made an impact on these kids, and that they cared so much. Since the kids had all told them that I love Mickey Mouse and Disney (gee, no clue how they could have figured THAT one out...), and since one of the moms was also a self-proclaimed "Mickey fiend", they gave me
this adorable Mickey Mouse Earth Day tote bag!! And inside it was a matching
mug and
stationery, a
beach towel (perfect for our trip to the Bahamas this summer!!), and
this little guy. :D
I am just so grateful. And I love it, I really do. I couldn't wait to use my new stationery to write thank-you notes to them. :)
Also, the other mom that came in brought the baby that she babysits for during the day. He was the cutest little 2-month-old baby boy, and I got to hold him and give him his bottle...he was just too adorable!! I love babies. Of course, when I have one of my own, I might change my tune a bit, but for now... ;D
And then today, flying solo...despite the circumstances, it was a really good day. My final observation went well, Michelle's teacher covered my class for a while, they were really good! And another student, Matthew, brought me a present! It was so cute, I could tell that this was something he really wanted to do himself, because next to the candle that I suspect Mom might have put in the bag, there was a bunch of Easter candy and a very lovingly wrapped present. I'm convinced that the more they love you, the more tape they stick on. In the present was a Spongebob Squarepants action figure. I love it. XD
It was also a day of 2 student birthdays, and one of them, Kyle, was just the cutest thing all day. All week long he was counting down the days till he'd be 7, and he just couldn't stop beaming all day, between singing "Happy Birthday" and mom coming in and his new birthday pencil and card from Mrs. D (and me and Mrs. C, of course... ;) )
Haha, after a whole year in there, I just realized this minute that the 3 teachers those kids saw every day this semester were Miss B, Mrs. C and Mrs. D.
Leave it to the first grade teacher to make it into an alphabet joke.
And now, although I'm off from school, I have quite a week ahead of me. Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend! :)
