Current Mood:
sick
How am I sick again? It's been a month. Jeez.
Everyone in the School of Ed is getting sick now, though. We're all running on Not Enough Sleep and High Stress. I'm fairly certain I caught my cold from my friend Meredith, so innocently sitting next to each other in Teaching Reading and Writing yesterday.
Damn.
In other news, though, this past weekend of busyness was actually...well...it wasn't bad in itself, but it was time consuming and I fell a little behind. :( You see, (in Stamford, at least) the month of October is Italian Culture and Heritage Month, and I have to show my face at the weekend events. Which means 2 straight weekends of driving the 2 hour trip to Stamford...and then coming back here.
I wish things weren't so time consuming, because they are fun. I went to the Homemade Wine Tasting Friday night, and my dad's red wine took 3rd out of 23. Then, when we left at like 10, I went with a few friends to Monster B's, a restaurant/bar practically down the street from my house, and had a really good time with them, and dancing and singing to the band that was playing. (
The Short Bus, they're awesome!)
Saturday, I got to see Greg, which was nice. This every 2 weeks thing gets harder and harder each time. Laura dragged us shopping with her for most of the day, and he got into a really funny political debate with my parents when we got home. By really funny, I mean that Greg has a BA in Political Science and tries to look at the issues while my Dad half-plays the devil's advocate and goes, "Really, Greg? But Sarah Palin's so much prettier than Joe Biden!! How about that?" LOL!
Sunday was the Festa Ferrari, and much as I swore up and down that I wouldn't dance because I hadn't been to a single rehearsal because I've been at college (for the 4th year in a row, how BOUT that??), I ended up hopping into the Tarantella because one of the old dancer's knee was hurting....and she just happened to know my sister and I would be home this weekend. Hmm. What a coincidence. Doesn't matter, cuz I rocked it and only messed up a little bit once because I'd only had ONE PRACTICE AN HOUR BEFORE THE PERFORMANCE or not even, and then ended up LEADING the snake.
.......sooooo yeah. I'm not quite sure what to say about that one. I'm just in a weird mood cuz I'm sick.
I did find out that
I Giullari*, the official Folk Dance group from Minturno (my family's town in Italy) is actually coming to Stamford in November to march/dance in our balloon parade!! That's exciting! I'm a little intimidated, with our humble little gruppo folklorico in Stamford and Laura and my little dance group that we created up here.
*To get the site in English, click the little Union Jack (British flag) on the right side. All the menu headings on the sidebar will still be in Italian, but if you click them, they'll give you information in English. The people in the pictures wear almost exactly the costumes we wear in our group :)
All of the girls in our group at our July Festival, "La Sagra delle Regne," (The Wheat Harvest), plus the little kids and Marco. I'm the one in the VERY middle with the big smile, lol.
The girls dancing at La Sagra. We usually have boys, but we did an all girls' dance for this festival. I'm the one leading the snake. My costume is called "La Pacchiana," which was the costume that women wore for important festivals, in the main part of the town, and that they got married in, etc. The girls with the colorful scarves are "La Campagnola," or the country girl - the woman's costume for working out in the fields.
Dancing in a circle. I have my back to the camera, wearing the brown vest with the gold flowers. It used to belong to my great-grandmother!
In couples. I'm the one all the way to the right.
I didn't realize this post was going to turn into a mini lesson on Minturnese traditions, lol!
Off to try and get some more stuff done. Wish me luck. <3 you all.
