This week I’ve really began to edit my third paper. I decided to write about A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner. This story was important to me to write about because it showed how being isolated can stall any human’s social development processes. Emily Rose’s life started spiraling outward because of her Dad. He tried to take out everyone in her life, and sooner or later when he died, she was left with nobody else. Unfortunately, Emily did not get used to becoming attached to people and didn’t know how to let go of Homer Barron at the end. She murders him initially, and this could have been prevented from the townspeople’s witnessing. Everyone knew that after Emily’s father passed away, her life started to become quiet misfortune. Watching a person go through an unfortunate circumstance, and not being able to help that person makes them equally responsible. Even though Emily Rose told the townspeople to leave, they still knew that she was not mentally stable. They could have at least been there for her in some way or form, watching her and alerting her to a point where she got out of control. They knew what was happening to her, she was depressed, and instead, of just watching, the least they could have done was to be kind and courteous to help her get to a point of normalcy. Sometimes people like to watch others fall in order to bring themselves up. Yeah, it is definitely a crazy, selfish world we live in out there today.
