Avery has no doubt that, in the end, she would have won. Jack would have picked her; though he's convinced himself he's complicated, feels deeply, puts value on any number of things that don't have to do with image or status, he would have decided he'd rather have on his arm a similarly successful, well-known younger woman*, and not a housewife from his hometown. (*If there's anything an older, wealthier man wants, it's to have a hot wife who is a decade and a half behind him in the aging process and who doesn't need to use him for his money; it signals that he attracted said hot wife with his own magnetism and that he'll continue to have a hot wife for at least a few years.) He'd tell himself he was being practical, of course, and taking into consideration his desire to finally have a family, but she knows what men like him really care about.
She's sick of men like him.
This is why she doesn't care that Jack would have picked her. This is why she takes Jack's other woman to bed. (Maybe there's a bit of revenge here, too, and maybe even nice housewives who wear crosses under their sweaters can appreciate that.) This is why, when she licks the inside of Nancy's thigh and listens to the soft gasp she lets out, Avery feels more victorious than she ever could have as the one Jack decided to love the most.
